Transfer News: SV 98 Loan Dettoni
SV 98 has filled its open position in central defence. Grayson Dettoni joins the club on loan from Bayern Munich II until the end of the season.
Paul Fernie: „Grayson perfectly fits the profile we were looking for in central defence this winter. He’s ambitious, but also extremely eager to learn and ready to embrace his intended role and put pressure on the competition. He received excellent training at FC Bayern, possesses a remarkable understanding of the game, and makes good decisions on the ball. He likes to defend high up the pitch and has the right mentality to win his one-on-one duels. We’re delighted to have him as another option in our squad.“
Grayson Dettoni: „I am very happy about my move to Darmstadt and the opportunity to be part of an ambitious second division club. My goal is to adapt to the level as quickly as possible and I will try to learn something new every day. I am sure that I can take the next step in my development with the Lilies.“
The 20-year-old was born in Manassas, Virginia, and took his first steps in soccer in California, where he played for the San Diego Surf youth team until 2015. At the age of ten, the tall defender moved with his family to Germany and joined the youth academy of TSV 1860 Munich before transferring to FC Bayern Munich’s youth academy in 2017.
At the record German champions, Dettoni progressed through all of Bayern’s youth teams and made his debut for the reserve team in September 2023. The American has made a total of 45 appearances for Bayern in the Regionalliga (fourth tier). In January 2025, Dettoni signed his first professional contract in Munich and was subsequently loaned to Grasshopper Club Zurich for the remainder of the season. This season, Dettoni has made nine appearances in the Regionalliga Bayern.
Dettoni will wear the number four jersey for Darmstadt 98.
