20 wins from 22 games, plus a goal difference of +82 and over a hundred (!) goals scored. Four game days before the end of the association league season, the U16 Lilies have already secured the championship. Thanks to an impressive 9-1 home win against the U17s of SVS Griesheim, the celebrations began on Saturday morning (May 11th). SVD striker Ben Warnecke in particular was in a scoring mood; the attacker scored five goals for coach Kiriakos Topousidis‘ team. +++ 100k for Africa - Germany's largest football boot donation +++

„An estimated 2.3 million football boots are sold in Germany every year. The result: a large number of football boots that are still in good condition are sorted out and often end up in the basement or other storage rooms in households across Germany,“ says the website „100k for Africa“ . The project of the same name aims to collect 100,000 pairs of football boots for players in Africa. SV Darmstadt 98 supports the project as a collection point. The football boots can be dropped off in the Lilien fan shop at the Merck Stadium at the Böllenfalltor until the end of the calendar year (opening hours: Wednesday to Friday, 12pm to 6pm).

+++ Seconds with a clear defeat +++

On Saturday evening there was a setback for the Lilien fan team: The second team had to admit defeat 1:6 away at VfR Eberstadt. At the beginning everything actually looked good, after seven minutes SVD player Nils Thierolf scored 1-0 from Lilien’s perspective, but the lead only lasted a minute. VfR from Eberstadt, who are still in the relegation battle of the district league C, scored four times in the first half through Thomas Denzel. In the second half it became even clearer, in stoppage time Eberstadt made it 6-1. Next up for the second team is next Saturday (18.05/1pm) against GW Darmstadt II, who are 14th in the table and are also still in a relegation battle.

+++ 11th Darmstadt Merck Company Run +++

Darmstadt Merck Company Run 2024!? That was really fun. Over 6,500 runners from almost 300 companies were guests at the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor yesterday (May 14th) to set off on a run through the adjacent forest of either 3.5 kilometers, 5km or 10km. The start was behind the back straight in the best weather and the finish line was in front of the main grandstand of the Merck Stadium. SV Darmstadt 98 also took part with its own team consisting of an office, sports and youth performance center.

+++ Happy Birthday, record scorer!

93 goals in 190 games for SV Darmstadt 98! Peter Cestonaro is still the leading goalscorer in the history of the Lilies. The goalscorer laced up his football boots for the Darmstadt team from 1976 to 1983. With the “after-work footballers” from the Böllenfalltor, the Haiger native was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga twice. Cestonaro had reason to celebrate not only then, but also this week: last Tuesday (May 14th), the former center forward celebrated his 70th birthday. Happy Birthday Cesto!

+++ Happy Birthday, Olli! +++

And another birthday boy this week: Tomorrow, Thursday (May 16th), Oliver Zach will celebrate his 52nd birthday, on which we warmly congratulate him. Since last summer, one of the team supervisors at SV Darmstadt 98 has been known to everyone as “Olli”.

+++ Fan voting: Second place for the Lilies +++

The voting platform „FanQ – On the Pulse of the Fans“ asked more than 10,000 football fans in the Bundesliga, plus at least 200 per club, how they rate their favorite club in various categories. The results regarding fan orientation and atmosphere in the stadium have now been published. SV 98 took a strong second place in the Bundesliga comparison in terms of fan orientation, and the Merck Stadium came in eighth place in the mood barometer. You can find all the results and further information here.

Disappointment & pride

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.
