U17: Intensive training camp in Edenkoben
Five days, seven training sessions, a friendly against the SV Elversberg U17 team, and countless valuable insights – the SV Darmstadt 98 U17 team successfully completed their training camp at the Edenkoben Sports School. From August 3rd to 7th, head coach Eric Ledwina's team prepared under optimal conditions for the upcoming season in the DFB Youth League.
Optimal conditions in Edenkoben
The sports school offered optimal conditions: In addition to artificial turf and a well-maintained grass pitch, the team also had access to an athletics room and a seminar room equipped with state-of-the-art technology for their daily work. „We wanted to use the time not only to further improve our athletic fundamentals, but above all to work intensively on our tactical principles and specifically refine our processes in playing with and against the ball. The boys showed great focus and pulled together brilliantly in all aspects,“ explained U17 coach Eric Ledwina.
Focus on team building and mentality
In addition to the athletic content, the coaching staff placed particular emphasis on team building. In the team rally, which required cooperation, a sense of responsibility, communication, and team spirit, the boys had to solve tasks and overcome challenges together in divided groups. A team evening with the motto „Beat the Staff“ rounded out the targeted team-building measures. „The training intensity was very high overall, but at the same time, we gained a tremendous amount of togetherness as a group. These days help us grow as a team – both athletically and personally,“ emphasised Athletic Director Björn Müller.
Test match as a tough test
On Wednesday afternoon, a friendly against SV Elversberg’s U17 team was scheduled, which ended successfully with a 3-2 win after three periods. „Of course, we still have a lot of room for improvement, but this was a decent performance after the intensive days. We’re taking many positive impressions back to Darmstadt,“ Ledwina summarised.
Conclusion
The training camp in Edenkoben was a complete success – both from a sporting and team dynamic perspective. The U17 team is returning to training with a lot of momentum and a clear division of roles, and is looking forward to the upcoming league season with great anticipation.
