U21 beats top team
Around 200 spectators saw a thrilling Hessen league game between the U21 of SV Darmstadt 98 and second-placed FC Bayern Alzenau on Sunday (December 1st). In a balanced game, the Lily fans celebrated a late 1-0 winning goal at the end.
The game started evenly. Both teams didn’t really have any clear chances to score. It wasn’t until the 33rd minute that things became dangerous for the guests from Alzenau: Maurizio Robotta tested the opposing goalkeeper Fabian Wolpert, but couldn’t overcome him. With a fair 0-0, we finally went into the half-time break, where both teams were able to warm up in the cold temperatures.
After the restart it was the young Lilies who came out of the locker room hot. Georgios Makridis (50th) and Max Pfister (67th) had great opportunities to take the lead. Pfister’s header in particular, which landed unfortunately on the inside of the post, could have given SVD a 1-0 lead. In stoppage time, it was attacker Fabio Torsiello who scored the celebrated winning goal. The 19-year-old shot the ball into Alzenau’s goal, which caused great joy on and off the pitch.
This success is a confirmation of our work. We probably wouldn't have won a game like this three months ago. The boys have developed fantastically and are increasingly accepting men's football.
Line Up: Rhode – Robotta – Arnold – Arania – Arnold – Grbic (Donges, 90) – Ballmert – Held – Pfister – El Idrissi (Schlosser, 77) – Makridis (Zelic, 62)
Important away game
