Less than two minutes after the break, Nico Baier equalised for the Junglilien. However, the 1-1 score didn’t last long, as Hanau took the lead again in the 55th minute. „We managed to come back twice and were actually closer to making it 3-2,“ emphasised Petrowsky. His team demonstrated its comeback capabilities for the second time on Sunday afternoon with Georgios Makridis’s goal on 78 minutes.
However, Darmstadt missed further good opportunities for a last-minute home victory. Instead, the visitors proved more efficient in front of goal and scored the decisive winner two minutes before the end of regulation time, making the final score 3-2. Petrowsky summed it up: „Especially offensively, we lacked the necessary luck today. Defensively, it’s unfortunately too easy to score against us at the moment.“
After the defeat, SV 98’s U21 team is in sixth place in the Hessenliga table with 53 points. Four matchdays remain this season, with the next one taking the young Lilies to SV Weidenhausen. Darmstadt will play there next Saturday (May 10th), kicking off at 3pm.
