U21’s Collect a Point on Competitive Debut
First competitive game, first point: On Sunday (July 28th) the U21s of SV Darmstadt 98 started the new Hessenliga season and played their first ever competitive game, collecting a point in the process. Coach Daniel Petrowsky's team drew 1-1 (0-1) against Hünfelder SV. The opponent took the lead in the 10th minute, but the blue-whites were able to equalise thanks to the goal from Othmane El Idrissi (81st) and thus get the first point to the account of the newly founded Lilien team.
The Junglilien made their debut in the Hessenliga on the FC Alsbach sports grounds, where they will play all their home games in the future. Against Hünfelder SV, who finished in seventh place last season, the Darmstadt team started the game actively and created scoring chances early in the game. As the game progressed, the East Hesse club took more and more of the initiative – and consequently the first goal. After a corner, Aaron Gadermann (10th) headed the guests into the lead. Until the end of the first half, U21 coach Daniel Petrowsky’s team tried to equalise before the break – but without success.
The Junglilien didn’t let up in the second half, even though the Hünfelder were compact and defended well. Despite numerous opportunities, the Blue and Whites initially lacked the necessary efficiency in exploiting opportunities. But not in the 81st minute of the game: In the final phase of the game, the ball landed at Othmane El Idrissi, who levelled with a powerful right-footed shot into the right corner of the goal – the first goal and therefore the first goalscorer for the new SV 98 U21s in the Hessenliga, which also added its first point to its points account with the 1-1 draw.
“We are satisfied with our performance, which was rewarded with the 1-1 draw,” summarised Daniel Petrowsky. “This is a decent start to the Hessenliga, which we can continue to build on,” continued the U21 coach. For him and his team, the next Hessenliga game is coming up next Sunday (August 3rd/2:30pm). Then we head out towards northern Hesse, where the Lilies are guests of KSV Baunatal.
Line-Up: Rohde – Sauer, Arnold, Zelic, Torsiello, Baier, Ballmert (C), Arania (77., Grbic), El Idrissi, Streller (79., Held), Pfister.
