„We knew that a very difficult opponent awaited us. It was also clear from their style of play that they would put us under pressure early on and play with high intensity,“ said U21 head coach Daniel Petrwosky, assessing the RW Walldorf team. At first, however, the Junglilien got into the game well and tried to create chances right from the start. As the first half progressed, however, the hosts increasingly took the initiative and continually increased the pressure. The Blue and Whites, on the other hand, repeatedly tried to free themselves with long balls. But due to an individual mistake, Walldorf took the lead after the Lilies lost the ball in the 26th minute of the game and scored their second goal (36th) before the break.
The SV 98 U21s had big plans in the second half of the game. But the Darmstadt team ultimately had to admit defeat against confident Walldorfers, who after 50 minutes made it 0:3 from Lilien’s perspective. “It was a deserved defeat against a top team in the league,” concluded Petrowsky and looked ahead: “Now we have to draw the right conclusions from this performance, analyse the game well and keep working to get better and correct simple mistakes. Then we will be rewarded for the effort we put in in every game.”
The U21-Junglilien’s next game will take place next Saturday (September 21st) at home in Alsbach against fifth-placed FSV Fernwald. Kick-off is at 3pm.
