Unbeaten streak continues
The Lilies cannot be defeated in the eighth competitive game in a row: the game against Preußen Münster ended 0-0 (0-0). Despite SV 98 dominating possession, the guests' defence held firm. Thanks to the point, the South Hesse team cracked the 20-point mark on matchday 14.
The opening phase of the floodlit game against Preußen Münster was largely even and both teams had a good opportunity: First, a flick from Philipp Förster just missed the goal in the 3rd minute, then Marcel Schuhen pushed away a header from Benjamin Mees for the visitors after 7 minutes.
As the half wore on, Darmstadt were able to increase their possession, but they repeatedly had small inaccuracies in the build-up, so that completions were rare. On 24 minutes, Fraser Hornby saw a half volley go into the side netting.
The 98ers let the ball run, whilst keeping the visitors away from goal, but equally found no way through an organised defence. Chances were at a premium at either end and so the sides went in level at the break.
After the break, the Lilies moved further forward and were able to press the away side back into their defensive third. Killian Corredor recorded the first shot, but his shot from a tight angle landed in the arms of Schenk, 10 minutes into the second half.
Despite dominating possession and territory, chances were still hard to come by. After 71 minutes, Clemens Riedel headed the ball from a free kick, but his header went agonisingly past the post. Three minutes later, another set piece caused danger, but Oscar Vilhelmsson’s header also flew wide.
In the final minutes, the guests from Münster threw some caution to the wind and appeared dangerously going forward. First, it was Kyerewaa who went close but his effort was off target after 84 minutes. Two minutes later and Schuhen was forced to tip over an effort from Makridis.
In added time, there again proved to be little goal threats and both teams were able to leave with a point and a clean sheet.
