“We are in a difficult phase”

No points for SV 98. The Lilies, who were weakened by injuries, ultimately lost 3-0 against SV Elversberg. The South Hessians are still waiting for their first win in 2025. The people of Darmstadt were dissatisfied with the performance and the current phase on the microphones after the game. We have summarised the quotes for you.

Florian Kohfeldt:

“Congratulations to Horst and Elversberg. It was a deserved victory for Elversberg. It was a game that could have gone either way for a long time. We won the ball in the first half where we ran towards the box or had free feet in the penalty area. I have to totally protect the team because they really wanted to. But they got wild in the final phase, which wasn’t smart. The red card is inexcusable. This was a stupid thing that wasn’t right. Overall, we have had a lot of setbacks in the last few days and weeks. This is not an excuse, it is simply the facts. We already had a long list of injuries before the game yesterday. Then Sergio Lopez was injured in the final training session and Fraser Hornby was also out five minutes before the start of the game. Many factors are currently working against us. But we must not use them as excuses, we must name them and continue to act. Except for the last 20 minutes, we put in a performance that made it not unlikely that we would win the game today. We had a very good development. But we now have a dent in the results and the euphoria. Now we have to be clear and stay with ourselves.”

Horst Steffen:

„Thanks for the congratulations. It was a hard-fought game. Both teams tried to bring their solutions forward and defend properly. Ball control wasn’t there in the first half as I would have liked. But that also had to do with defending and attacking the opponent. It went back and forth for long stretches. The game could have gone one way or the other. Thank God we pulled it for ourselves. After 3-0 we felt like we could pull it off. We had to defend a lot of attacks without allowing much. I’m glad that the boys were rewarded for their good performance. Basically it’s a great result and a deserved win for us.”

Clemens Riedel:

“We are in a difficult phase. At the front there is no last desire to score a goal and at the back there is no last conviction to prevent a goal being conceded. What was taken for granted for a long time is currently missing a little. There are also bad passes that we haven’t had in a long time. Elversberg was very strong and difficult for us to take hold of. We knew what to expect and were still usually a step too late. This is also how the goals were created. The failures are of course bitter, we are missing important players. Still, everyone in the squad is good enough to replace these guys. It’s not that. Nevertheless, we are still convinced of our plan and that we are a good team. I am sure that we will show a reaction in Braunschweig.”

Isac Lidberg:

“It wasn’t our day today. We weren’t good enough. After coming on as a substitute, I wanted to help the team, perhaps with a goal. But we immediately conceded 3-0 and had a man sent off, which made it even more difficult. We have to find a way to regain our form from last year. It’s not a good phase at the moment. Each of us has to improve. Nevertheless, we are a good team with a good plan.”
