Torsten Lieberknecht:

“Congratulations to FC Augsburg on their victory. Everyone saw how the game was going and that our mistakes led directly to goals being conceded. Before I point the finger at my players, I look for the faults in myself. With the calm and distance that a coach should adopt, I will draw the conclusions as to why this defeat happened today. It was also important to me at half-time not to attack the team and unsettle them even more. I appealed to them that we end the second half with dignity. Overall, we are all shocked by the outcome of this game.

On the reaction of the fans:
“I found it amazing that more people didn’t whistle at us at halftime. After the game it was important that I didn’t hide and instead went into the corner with my boys. The speech after the game was emotional and the criticism was correct. The stadium then gave us encouraging applause. This is not an everyday occurrence and is what makes the Darmstadt audience special.”

Jess Thorup:

“We have only won twice in a row once a season in recent years. Today the team played outstandingly from the start and put their opponents under pressure. We scored some nice goals. There are so many positive things we can take away. At half-time we talked about how we wanted to keep trying to play forward and keep a clean sheet. Congratulations to the team on their well-deserved victory.”

Marcel Schuhen:

„We can only apologise to everyone who has even the slightest bit of sympathy for Darmstadt 98. It was a catastrophic performance with individual mistakes in all parts of the team. Augsburg punished our mistakes and shot us down completely. There’s no way to explain something like that. It was desolate. For us today it’s a slap in the face that really hurts.“

On the reaction of the fans:
„The reaction of our fans after the final whistle almost makes it worse for us athletes. Even after such a game and such a defeat, we were shown a lot of respect. And we didn’t deserve this respect at all today. I would have understood any kind of insults, because we weren’t worthy of wearing the lily jersey today. The fans‘ speech was emotional and clear words were spoken, but it was never aggressive. This sensitivity is also part of Darmstadt 98.“
