Opponent check – Bayern Munich

What a drama on the last day of the 1999/00 season! In the long-distance duel, Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen fought for the German championship. The advantage was clearly with the Werkself, who were three points ahead at the top of the league. But that was quickly equalised by the Munich team on matchday 34. In the home game against Werder Bremen they started like fire fighters and were leading 3-0 after just 16 minutes. Leverkusen, on the other hand, visiting newly promoted Unterhaching, fell behind due to an own goal from Michael Ballack in the 20th minute of the game and ended up losing 2-0, whereas the record champions prevailed 3-1 against Bremen. At the last second, the championship trophy changed hands.

This time we remained steadfast

The writing was large on Torsten Lieberknecht's sweater. “L’Union fait la force” was written on the dark blue top that the Lilies’ head coach wore on Saturday afternoon. During the 90 minutes in Leipzig and also at the subsequent press conference. This French sentence could be translated as “Together we are strong”. Was it a conscious choice of clothes on the part of the 50-year-old? Not to be finally dissolved. And yet the phrase fits particularly well with lilies these days.

The Wild Gerda

While the first spring bloomers of the year are eagerly fighting their way towards the sunlight, while starlings and blackbirds are loudly announcing their return from their previous journey, while nature is timidly yet forcefully freeing itself from its winter grip, everyone gathers on a Sunday morning at the end of February At 10 a.m. the hiking department of SV 98 goes on a hike in the Charlottenhof parking lot.
