The smallest Bundesliga location

A village makes football history: With their first-ever promotion to the Bundesliga, SV 07 Elversberg became the 59th Bundesliga club and the smallest club the league has ever seen. The club thus wrote a special chapter in the history of German football.

Back to his old stomping grounds

Carlo Sickinger knows SV 07 Elversberg very well: He played for the Saarland club last season before joining Darmstadt. He will now face his former club for the first time since his transfer in the DFB Cup.

The marching team

In the 2021/22 season, SV 07 Elversberg was still playing in the Regionalliga Südwest (fourth tier). A year later, they achieved promotion to the 3. Liga (third tier), from which the Saarland-based club immediately advanced to the 2. Bundesliga (second tier). There, SVE established themselves within three seasons and ultimately secured promotion to the top flight. Now, the challenge of competing against the top teams in German football awaits.

Cup special feature

SV 07 Elversberg has yet to reach the round of 16 in the DFB Cup. In their previous appearances, the Saarland team has always been eliminated by the second round at the latest.

Two draws to finish the season

The last two league matches between Darmstadt and SV 07 Elversberg ended in draws. A goalless 0-0 in Saarland was followed by a spectacular 3-3 draw at the Böllenfalltor stadium. However, this record doesn’t count in the DFB Cup: On Tuesday, the match is for a place in the round of 16, and this time one team has to win.
