The Last Encounter

Hoffenheim started the game a little more powerfully and had two small half-chances in the opening minutes. The first real opportunity came from Kramaric, who headed a cross past the post on 8 minutes. Shortly afterwards, the Croatian took a penalty after Bebou was fouled by Gjasula in the penalty area and scored to make it 1-0 for TSG after 14 minutes. Almost ten minutes later, the appropriate answer from the Lilies followed. After a great move by the guests, Franjic was found in the penalty area, his cross pass found Pfeiffer, whose finish levelled things at 1:1 after 23 minutes and the long-awaited Bundesliga goal for Pfeiffer after his return.

Now the game finally picked up speed: Kaderabek prevailed on the baseline, Prömels narrowly missed the goal after 24 minutes. On the other side, Skarke tried from 18 meters three minutes later, but the deflected shot whizzed just wide of the goal. And then Bebou was once again the focus when the long ball was played for the second time that evening. The striker went around keeper Schuhen and pushed in to make it 2-1 just before the half hour mark. Nothing more happened in the first half, but more shots on goal and possession of the ball testify to SV 98’s overall good performance.

Kramaric had the first chance six minutes into the second half, his shot landing on the roof of the net. The Lilies then established themselves in the opponent’s half, but were unable to convert their field superiority into scoring chances. Until the 57th minute: Pfeiffer made good use of Isherwood’s pass and passed it across to Skarke, whose dry low shot whizzed into the net to make it 2-2. Both sides then neutralised each other before Bebou struck again. The Togolese went past Isherwood and scored with a well-placed shot to make it 3-2 on 66 minutes. The South Hesse team then tried to find gaps in Hoffenheim’s defense, but had difficulty. TSG almost wrapped it up on it after 80 minutes, but Brooks aimed over the box from point-blank range. Ronstadt’s long-range shot also sailed just over the goal three minutes later. 85 minutes played and it became 3:3, Darmstadt came back for a third time! Pfeiffer fed Skarke, who hit the ball directly into the bottom corner.

The opponent's opinion

“Darmstadt is and was not a typical relegation team. “It’s a team that’s trying to move forward in a playful way,” said TSG coach Pellegrino Matarazzo at the press conference on Friday. “We want to shift the game into the opponent’s half; we have the quality to do that. Then I assume that it will look different than the last two away games,” said the American.
