1-1: Points Shared in Münster
A draw on matchday 33. Darmstadt 98 drew 1-1 with SC Preußen Münster in their final away game of the season. Isac Lidberg scored the goal.
The South Hessians enjoyed plenty of possession from the outset and created several scoring opportunities early in their match against Preußen Münster. After two minutes, Yosuke Furukawa tried his luck from distance, but his effort was blocked. On four minutes, Matej Maglica headed a corner kick over the bar. Two minutes later, Raoul Petretta controlled a precise pass from Patric Pfeiffer, but his touch was too heavy, and he was denied by goalkeeper Johannes Schenk.
However, it was Preußen Münster who took the lead with eight minutes played: The home side capitalised on a numerical advantage while Patric Pfeiffer received treatment off the pitch for an injury. Yamada converted a long ball to give his team the lead. The 98ers, however, remained unfazed and continued to dominate the game. Just seven minutes after conceding, Isac Lidberg capitalised on a short back pass from Preußen Münster, cut inside, and fired a low shot into the near corner to equalise.
After 20 minutes, Marcel Schuhen made his first notable save, making two excellent stops against Yamada. The Darmstadt goalkeeper first parried a header before clearing the rebound with his foot. Just before the half-hour mark, Darmstadt had a man advantage: Hendrix caught Killian Corredor with a reckless tackle and was deservedly sent off.
With the numerical advantage, Darmstadt took complete control of the game and were awarded a penalty after a swift counter-attack in which Corredor was brought down in the box by the opposing goalkeeper. However, Isac Lidberg’s spot-kick was saved by Schenk, who stood tall as the Swede went down the middle on 36 minutes.
In the third minute of added time, Darmstadt combined well through Marco Richter and Niklas Schmidt to penetrate the penalty area once more, but Richter’s shot went just wide of the far post. The score remained level at halftime.
After the break, the visitors continued to completely control the game, patiently circulating the ball and waiting for their scoring opportunities. Four minutes in, Hiroki Akiyama tried his luck from distance, but his shot went wide.
Darmstadt struggled to find a way through Darmstadt, and it wasn’t until the 70th minute that they threatened again, but Corredor’s long-range effort was easily gathered by goalkeeper Schenk. A minute later, Lidberg got his head to the ball but couldn’t generate any power behind it.
Shortly before the final whistle, Richter attempted a free kick towards the near post, but Schenk made a superb save.
