98-year-old becomes a member / largest team photo in club history

At 98, Oskar Steinmann became the oldest member of the Lilies – and was there to witness his Lilies' 2-1 victory against Braunschweig at the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor. A few days later, the fans of Darmstadt 98 made club history: Around 1,600 members gathered for the largest team photo in the Lilies' history. You can read all about these and other topics in "Lilien Across the Board."

+++ 98-year-old becomes Lilien member +++

At the age of 98, Oskar Steinmann signed his membership application in the VIP box at the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor, making him the oldest member of the Lilies. However, the stadium appointment almost wasn’t possible. The 98-year-old had suffered a severe stroke just three weeks earlier. With an escort and a walker, he still made it to his home stadium, the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor. Equipped with a scarf, hat, and ID, Oskar Steinmann watched the Lilies‘ 2-1 victory.

+++ Member team photo +++

On Tuesday (September 16th) at 5pm, the Bölle gates opened. A historic event was on the Lilien fans‘ schedule. This year’s team photo was intended to be the biggest in Lilien history. To achieve this goal, the members of the 98 team received an invitation in advance to participate in the team photo. But the picture wasn’t the only item on the agenda for the fans. Plenty of food and beverages were available on-site throughout the event, as well as a mobile stand with specially discounted products. Then, at 6pm, it was time for the photo shoot. But there was more to it than just the shutter button. Chants and good cheer rounded out the event. Afterwards, the team mingled with the fans and diligently sign autographs.

+++ Fan team brings home a point +++

The Lilien fan team visited FC Sturm Darmstadt this weekend, drawing 2-2 after a thrilling match. The team was able to equalise a goal conceded in the 37th minute before halftime with a goal from Julian Schreiber (43′). With their first attack after the restart, FC Sturm took the lead again (46′). But the fan team had another answer, scoring the final goal in the 68th minute. The fan team’s next game is on Wednesday (September 24th, 7:30pm), with a home game against Türk Gücü Darmstadt II.

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.
