SV Darmstadt 98's U21 team proved their mettle at home against KSV Hessen Kassel II in the Hessenliga on Sunday (Oct. 11th). After a convincing 90-minute performance, the Young Lilies secured another three points, finishing with a decisive 4–0 victory that lifts them to sixth place in the standings.
SV Darmstadt 98’s U21 team got off to a good start in the match against Hessen Kassel II, taking the lead as early as the twelfth minute. After Vincent Hofer was fouled in the penalty area, Milian Herbst converted the resulting spot-kick to make it 1–0. The Lilies went into the half-time break with this lead.
After the break, the Young Lilies picked up where they left off in the first half and extended their lead. In the 56th minute, it was Milian Herbst again who scored his second goal of the day to make it 2–0. The Darmstadt side remained successful in the closing stages, too: after Vincent Hofer was fouled in the penalty area in the 76th minute, he stepped up to take the spot-kick himself and converted to make it 3–0 (77′). Toni Hartel rounded off the scoring in the 87th minute, bringing the final score to 4–0. With this result, the U21s not only celebrated a commanding home victory but also kept a clean sheet for the second consecutive match.
Coach Patrick Kurt was pleased with his team’s performance after the game: „We controlled the match from the start and fully deserved the win by that margin.“ He particularly highlighted the team’s development; they had trained well leading up to the away game in Hünfeld and have now celebrated back-to-back victories. For Kurt, the goal is to build on these performances. „The focus now shifts to a good week of training so we can prepare as well as possible for the challenging away game in Hanau,“ the coach said, looking ahead to the next task.
This moves SV Darmstadt 98’s U21 team up to sixth place in the Lotto Hessenliga with 21 points. Next Sunday (October 18th), SV 98 will play away at SC 1960 Hanau. Hanau currently sits in 16th place in the standings with ten points.
