“A deserved victory”

A successful afternoon, in which the Lilies secured a clear lead with three goals in ten minutes, earned SV 98 three more points. The "Düsseldorf curse" has finally been broken after their first away win since 1988. Both coaches spoke afterward of a deserved victory for Darmstadt, who also had two goals ruled out for narrow offsides. The Lilies players were also highly satisfied with their performance and the result.

Florian Kohfeldt:

„There was a phase in the first half where the game could have turned. Otherwise, with the exception of 20 minutes, we played a good away game and deserved to win. And that was against an opponent I had and continue to have great respect for. As the season progresses, we’ll see what quality the Düsseldorf team has. So, it’s a very good win for us. Today was one of those days where a lot of things came together for us.“

Daniel Thioune:

„Congratulations to Flo and Darmstadt 98. The win is absolutely deserved given the second half. The first half was evenly matched, in my opinion. Our great chance in the first half would certainly have helped us in a game in which we had high hopes. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to bring the energy we needed to win the game. We couldn’t find our attacking rhythms to hurt the opponent. If you can’t do that, you have to make sure you defend, and unfortunately, we didn’t manage that either. After 90 disappointing minutes, I have to apologise to the crowd, who had to endure a lot in previous home games as well. The expectation and reality were far apart today; we were only too happy with the occasional whistle. I am therefore extremely disappointed.“

Fabian Nürnberger:

„It’s fun with the team, you could already tell during preseason. They’re a great group; we work very hard and are focused. I think we deserved the win. Schuh (Marcel Schuhen) did an outstanding job of keeping the ball in the first half. It definitely wasn’t a „must-keep“ type of shot. When I scored, I was fully focused on putting the ball in. Isac (Lidberg) just told me he was completely free in that moment (laughs). It’s a good thing I scored, otherwise I would have had to listen to him about it.“

Marcel Schuhen:

„Overall, it was a well-deserved victory. The boys were totally ready today. At halftime, we were still dissatisfied with the game because we didn’t take advantage of the space. Things were much better in the second half. We played our game, exploited the mistakes, and scored coolly. You could say we deserved to win. It gives me incredible pleasure to play in a team that’s very meticulous and hard-working.“
