Marvin Mehlem will no longer wear the Lily on his chest in the future: The midfielder is moving from SV Darmstadt 98 to the English Championship side Hull City. The clubs agreed not to disclose the terms of the transfer.

Paul Fernie: “Marvin spent seven years at SV 98, this fact alone shows that he totally identified with the club. We tried everything to convince him to stay. However, he has reiterated his desire to change. Marvin’s development is the next good example that players can mature in peace in Darmstadt. What is important, however, is that – as in this case – we also benefit financially at the end of our journey together. This is the only way we can develop as a club in the long term. We all wish Marvin all the best in his new sporting role. He will always be a welcome guest at the Merck Stadium Böllenfalltor.”

Marvin Mehlem: “Even though I now have a new adventure ahead of me, I will never forget these seven years in Darmstadt. Here I have established myself in the team, and I immediately remember my first second division goal against Duisburg. I have felt very comfortable in this family club over the years and have a lot in common with the club and the city. This is also why I extended my contract several times. In terms of sport, I have experienced many ups and downs, promotions and relegations.”

Mehlem continued: “I was able to play in the Bundesliga and score my first Bundesliga goal, these are things you dreamed of as a child. I will always have fond memories of Darmstadt 98 and my time at the club.”

Mehlem moved to SV 98 in the summer of 2017 at the age of 19. Since then he has appeared in 191 competitive games for the South Hesse team. He scored 21 goals for Darmstadt and prepared another 31 goals. In the 2022/23 promotion season he played 32 of 34 matches, all of them in the starting line-up. Last season, two broken fibula prevented him from making any more appearances in the Bundesliga; in total, he appeared in 20 Bundesliga games for the Lilies.

The entire SV 98 wishes Marvin Mehlem all the best for his future personally and sportingly!

Goal fest in Hanau: U21 wins 5-1

More crucial points. Away at 1. Hanauer FC, SV Darmstadt 98's U21 team delivered a convincing five-goal performance in their fight to avoid relegation. With this victory, the young Lilies have amassed twelve points from their last five matches. With two matchdays remaining, direct relegation is no longer a possibility, and the U21s hold a nine-point cushion above the relegation zone. However, Darmstadt need more points to further distance themselves from the relegation playoff spot.
