‚Excellent conditions‘ ‚Too many players were missing in total‘

With their 2-1 victory in a friendly against SV Wehen Wiesbaden, Darmstadt 98 brought their training camp in El Saler to a close. The team returns to southern Hesse on Sunday. Following the match against SVWW, Florian Kohfeldt summarised the past week and also addressed the current status of the injured players.

… about the final test match:

The first half was decent, but after the break we made too many mistakes in our build-up play and conceded chances. Wehen had many clear opportunities after our obvious errors, something we don’t usually do. It wasn’t good, but I’m still glad we found a way to win the game.

... throughout the entire training camp:

Even though it rained for the first day and a half, we were able to train very well, and then the sun came out. We had excellent conditions at the hotel; the overall conditions were outstanding once again.

Unfortunately, in terms of content, we had too many players who couldn’t complete the program fully, or even at all. The players who were fully engaged did well. However, overall, too many of those who provide us with structure and stability were missing. Nevertheless, there are also players like Hiro and Marco who have already found a good rhythm.

… regarding the numerous outages in the meantime:

It’s better to have something like this now than next week. But we have a lot to do next week to be well prepared for Bochum. When almost ten players are unable to train at times, those are obstacles we have to deal with and work on together with focus to build our rhythm for the Bochum game.

… about Fabian Nürnberger, Killian Corredor and Fraser Hornby:

I’m not optimistic about Fabi and Killi’s availability for the Bochum game. With Killi, we’re still not entirely sure about the extent of his injuries. That’s a problem. Hopefully, Fabi won’t be out for weeks; I’m more optimistic about that. Fraser only managed one training session before he got sick. I’m assuming he’ll be available for the Bochum game. In that respect, the year hasn’t started well.

… for the coming week:

Unfortunately, we can’t take the temperatures with us. The important thing is that as many players as possible can complete a full week of training. That’s the main focus. I know what our routines and stability are, but we need to rebuild that next week. For that, we need clarity early in the week about who will be available to play against Bochum.
