Birthday on Bölle

For Marvin Mehlem, the return to the Böllenfalltor stadium will be a special reunion. The former Darmstadt player celebrates his 29th birthday on match day and will face the club for which he played for a total of seven years between 2017 and 2024. In 191 competitive matches for SV Darmstadt 98, Mehlem scored 21 goals and provided 31 assists. One of the highlights of his time in Darmstadt was their promotion to the Bundesliga in 2023. Since the summer of 2025, the midfielder has been under contract with Arminia Bielefeld and now returns to his old stomping ground on his birthday.

Between record run and away crisis

Arminia Bielefeld’s recent away form has been anything but smooth. They’ve lost seven of their last eight away matches in the 2. Bundesliga, managing only a victory in Münster on matchday 31 of last season. However, a look back at 2019 reveals that Arminia once enjoyed a remarkable away run at their home ground, the Böllenfalltor. Back then, Bielefeld won 3-1 in Darmstadt, celebrating their seventh consecutive away victory. At the time, this was a new record in the history of the 2. Bundesliga.

Efficiency is required

Arminia Bielefeld has conceded very few chances so far. Only Bochum has allowed their opponents fewer shots on goal, and Arminia’s xGoals value (4) is the lowest in the league. However, their defence isn’t entirely solid: Bielefeld has already conceded eight goals from their relatively few opportunities. This means Arminia’s opponents have the best finishing efficiency in the league.

Double striker wanted!

Darmstadt’s last victory in a direct encounter with Arminia Bielefeld dates back several years. In September 2017, SV 98 prevailed 4-3 in a spectacular match at the Böllenfalltor stadium. Kevin Großkreutz scored twice, and Marvin Mehlem was also on the pitch that day. For Mehlem, this brings things full circle, as he himself was wearing the Darmstadt jersey in Darmstadt’s last victory against Arminia.

Familiar opponent

For Christopher Lannert, the match against Arminia Bielefeld is a special reunion: The right-back only moved from Arminia to Darmstadt in July. Lannert wore the Bielefeld jersey for three years, making 118 appearances for DSC and most recently serving as vice-captain. He also celebrated promotion to the 2. Bundesliga with Arminia. Last season, the 28-year-old made 28 appearances in the second division and will now face his former club for the first time in a Darmstadt jersey.
