„We played a decent game until the penalty. After that, we simply lacked a certain seriousness. And I don’t understand that, I have to be completely honest. I still have complete faith in this team. And we simply didn’t do that today in many small situations, with second balls, balls in the air, small challenges. We weren’t serious enough. That’s why it was a very, very poor second half from us. We talked about needing to rely much more on intensity to compete against a Darmstadt team that isn’t just judged on its league position, but on its actual performance. But it’s the 2. Bundesliga, and Flo said it too: it’s about results. And we managed that today because we were more intense in the second half, both with and without the ball. Now we haven’t won in four league games. We all need to take a hard look at ourselves and analyse this.“
„In recent matches, we’ve had several situations like this that have negatively impacted our performance. A red card here, or today a missed penalty. These are all things that can happen. Lately, however, they’re happening far too often. And logically, it becomes difficult to win games when you have to cope with such setbacks. We need to start eliminating these kinds of mistakes, these negative events from our game. I also thought we were playing quite well in the period surrounding the penalty. Then we conceded the goal and were sluggish for a few minutes afterward. At halftime, we resolved to get right back into the game as we had before conceding, to regain some control. And unfortunately, the result alone shows that we didn’t manage to do that.“

At the Boxing Club's open house, which also marked the launch of a joint project between SV 98, the independent organisation Rope e.V., and the Darmstadt Youth Services, the foundation was laid for a new sports program in the Martinsviertel district.

On May 18th, after a 1-1 draw at Bayer Leverkusen, the club’s first-ever relegation from the Bundesliga was confirmed. After 33 years of uninterrupted top-flight football, the Red Devils had to make the drop to the second division. But just one week later, the chance for a conciliatory end to the season presented itself at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium. FCK seized it.
