Facts & Figures: The Top Stats about the Match against Dresden

On Sunday, SVD faces its first away match of the 2026/27 season against Dynamo Dresden. The Lilies have managed to score at least once in every match played at the Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion so far. You can find further facts and figures regarding the game here.

Strong Track Record in Saxony's state capital

SVD has played seven away matches at the Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion so far and boasts an impressive record. On five occasions, the Lilies took the full three points back to Darmstadt, while the points remained in Saxony only twice. There has never been a draw between Dresden and Darmstadt at the Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion.

Goals Guaranteed

To date, SVD has scored at least once in every competitive match against Dynamo Dresden. However, their most recent away game was a nail-biter: Yosuke Furukawa scored Darmstadt’s goal in the 90th minute but could not prevent SV 98 from suffering a defeat. Naturally, new signing Hojae Lee is now set for his first encounter with Dresden. His Korean predecessor, Seung-ho Paik, scored two of his three total goals in a Lilies shirt against Dynamo. A good omen?

Hesse Comeback

No team overcame a 2–0 deficit more often than SVD last season (twice). The Lilien demonstrated their comeback qualities against Kiel as well: nine of their 13 total shots came between the 73rd and 86th minutes alone. It was during this strong closing spell that the two goals—scored by substitute Hojae Lee and defensive powerhouse Aleksandar Vukotic—were netted. For the South Korean newcomer, it was a dream debut: Lee scored his first goal with his very first—and so far only—shot in the 2. Bundesliga.

Upturn in the Second Half of the Season

As a newly promoted team, Dynamo Dresden initially struggled last season, needing time during the first half of the campaign to adjust to the new division. At the winter break, the club sat in 18th place. However, Dresden proved much more solid in the second half of the season, consistently picking up points to secure a strong fourth-place finish in the second-half standings and 11th place in the overall table.

Late Goals

Late goals have become something of a fixture whenever the Lilies play away in Dresden. In 2022, Mathias Honsak fired SVD to victory deep into stoppage time (90+3); in the 2024 cup match, four of the five goals came from the 84th minute onwards; and in their most recent appearance in Dresden, Furukawa also scored as late as the 90th minute. Leaving early is therefore hardly worth it for this fixture.

Converting Chances Makes the Difference.

Dynamo Dresden got off to a rocky start to the season with a 3–0 defeat in Nürnberg. The loss was more emphatic than the run of play suggested: with an xG (expected goals) value of 1.7, SGD created genuine chances but failed to convert them. In contrast, Darmstadt’s Hojae Lee and Aleksandar Vukotic proved extremely efficient, scoring from their only shots of the match.

Rapid Changes

Both SVD and Dynamo Dresden have been extremely active in the transfer market. With more than ten arrivals and departures each, both clubs have given their squads a new look. In the recent 2–2 draw against Kiel, seven of the Lilies new signings saw action, with four of them even starting the match.

Jonathan Heimes Square becomes a reality: Work begins in the stadium for the memorial.

A special place of remembrance for one of Darmstadt's most well-known fans: This week, work began on the new Jonathan Heimes Square at the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor. With the redesign of the main stand's forecourt, the area in front of the stadium will be named after the fan who died of cancer around ten years ago, whose motto "You have to fight" remains inextricably linked to the Lilies. The work is expected to be completed before the home match against Hannover 96 (August 30th, 1:30pm) or Arminia Bielefeld (September 11th, 6:30pm).
