The goal itself, however, was an unfortunate affair: following a long corner kick to the far post, Kelvin Kunstmann inadvertently put the ball into his own net. After conceding, the Darmstadt side found their rhythm, aided by several ball recoveries and targeted passes into open space. Nevertheless, the Lilies had Benedikt Börner to thank for preventing Walldorf from extending their lead further. A red card shown to the hosts in the 37th minute—following a rough tackle near the halfway line—marked the turning point of the match. Pressure on the Walldorf goal mounted significantly before the break, though the Lilies were unable to find an equaliser prior to the halftime whistle.
After the break, the match was played almost entirely in one direction. The „Lilies“ played dominantly, creating numerous scoring opportunities—and this time, they capitalised on them. Mika Schlosser scored the equaliser from the penalty spot in the 64th minute after Mark Maier had been brought down in the box. Exactly ten minutes later, the young Lilies turned the match around completely: following a cross-field pass, Yannick Stark simply had to tap the ball over the line to make it 2–1. In the 83rd minute, Leonard Fenyoe rewarded the Darmstadt side for their strong performance by heading in the third goal. Vincent Hofer capped off the scoring in the 87th minute; after a long ball played behind the Walldorf defensive line, he controlled the ball beautifully with his first touch and fired it under the crossbar to seal a 4–1 victory.
Patrick Kurt was satisfied after the match: „We didn’t settle into the game well during the first 30 minutes against a technically strong opponent. Benedikt Börner kept us in the match during that phase. After the opposition received a red card, we were the dominant team and ultimately secured a well-deserved win by that margin.“
With these three points, the U21’s move up to second place in the standings; only Unter-Flockenbach has managed to win all three matches. The young Lilies next match is an away game against KSV Baunatal on Sunday (August 16, 5pm).

With the redesign of the main stand's forecourt, the area in front of the stadium will be named after the fan who died of cancer around ten years ago, whose motto "You have to fight" remains inextricably linked to the Lilies.
