Lilies continue their scoring spree
Third test, third clear victory. SV 98 won the match against FC 08 Homburg 5-1 (3-0).
A very decent test. For the time of year we're in, it was absolutely fine. Nothing more and nothing less.
Weißhaupt is skirted, El Kadiri flicks
In their first home preseason match, Patric Pfeiffer gave Darmstadt the lead against the regional league side after just nine minutes. Following a long free kick and a superb layoff by Fynn Lakenmacher, the centre-back bundled the ball over the line in the ninth minute. Homburg also created some attacking opportunities: In the 17th minute, Marcel Schuhen made a spectacular one-arm save to deny a close-range shot.
The Lilies then controlled the game and extended their lead in the 38th minute: After an excellent through ball from Lance Duijvestijn, Noah Weißhaupt remained composed in front of the Saarlanders‘ goal, rounded the visiting goalkeeper Michael Gelt, and slotted the ball home.
Shortly before the halftime whistle, Duijvestijn, who had provided the assist, got on the scoresheet himself, calmly making it 3-0, which also proved to be the halftime score.
At halftime, Florian Kohfeldt made seven substitutions, and the newly formed Darmstadt side needed no time to get going. In the 52nd minute, Ibrahim El Kadiri curled the ball into the far corner with his right foot to make it 4-0. Just two minutes later, Jacob Roden pulled one back for Homburg, reducing the deficit to 4-1.
The 2,600 spectators at the Merck Stadium continued to see the South Hessians dominate the game, although they didn’t create many clear-cut chances. That changed in the 73rd minute when El Kadiri once again finished with a technically brilliant shot into the far corner (5-1).
