Match day quote

As in every second division match, we're facing a tough opponent. For us, it's crucial to create fast-paced attacking moves. That's not so easy against Düsseldorf. Defensively, we need to protect our wings well to prevent crosses. At the same time, we need to have good man-marking in the box.

Opposition View

Markus Anfang, head coach of Fortuna Düsseldorf, at the pre-match press conference: „Darmstadt is a team that can score from open play and set pieces. They have top quality, are difficult to defend against, and have fast players, but also good target men. Because they have players who make runs in behind, they play a lot of long balls. We don’t want to give them those opportunities. We have to defend their runs in behind and the space behind their back line well. We also have to defend set pieces with high concentration. They have four or five good headers of the ball with excellent timing.“

A second-division team on the Berlin Mount Olympus: Hannover 96 achieved something unique in 1992. On May 23, the Lower Saxony club defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach in the DFB Cup final, securing another major title in the club's history 38 years after their German championship win in 1954. Hannover became the first and, to this day, only "true" second-division team to win the DFB Cup, causing one of the biggest upsets in the competition's history.
