Riedel Transfers to Espanyol Barcelona
After six years with the club, Clemens Riedel is leaving SV 98. The 22-year-old defender is joining Spanish first division club RCD Espanyol Barcelona with immediate effect. The details of the transfer have been kept confidential.
Paul Fernie: „It’s special for the entire club that a player who was trained at our youth academy will be active in La Liga in the future. We knew there was interest in Clemens and that a move was possible during this transfer window. It is our stated goal not to let any high-potential player leave on a free transfer. With this transfer, we have achieved a very good result for all parties. On the one hand, young players have seen through Clemens that you can make the leap from youth to professional at the Lilies, and at the same time, we have benefited not only athletically but also financially from the training. And Clemens himself has made the step into a top league possible through his outstanding development in Darmstadt. We wish him all the best for the future.“
Riedel joined the Lilies‘ youth academy in July 2019 and made his professional debut for SV 98 on July 24, 2021, at the age of 18. The Wölfersheim native played a total of 84 competitive matches for the Lilies and, due to his performances, was called up to both the U19 (seven matches) and the U21 (one appearance) of Germany’s national team.

The long wait for a point is over! After four consecutive defeats, SV Darmstadt 98's U21 team finally secured some points.
