For the first time since the end of August, the Lilies finished a game without a point: SV 98 lost 1-0 (1-0) to in-form FC Schalke 04. After the away game against the league leaders, they remain on 18 points after ten matchdays.
An uneventful opening phase took a sudden, bitter turn for the Lilies: SV 98 found themselves behind with the first chance. Sylla put his team in front after nine minutes as he raced clear and slotted home. The visitors then struggled to find a suitable response. Darmstadt repeatedly created promising opportunities, particularly down the wings. SV 98 often used chip and diagonal balls to pose problems for the home side’s defence. Marseiler emerged as an asset, causing a lot of activity down the left wing and repeatedly sending the ball dangerously towards the penalty area. However, S04 keeper Karius was rarely seriously tested. Defensively, the South Hesse side were extremely alert after conceding the goal. Things only got tense in the 28th minute when El-Faouzi played a pass to teammate Sylla, who this time was stopped by Schuhen.
After the restart, Schalke became more involved in the game, keeping the Lilies well away from the opposing goal for the first quarter of an hour. Coach Florian Kohfeldt responded with three substitutions: Bader and Papela entered the field, and Will also returned after a long injury layoff. The move paid off, as SV 98 regained its control of the ball. After 76 minutes, Hornby cut a ball to Corredor, but he missed the target. Shortly after, the Frenchman received another pass, and this time the ball found the net – but Corredor was offside.
Late in stoppage time, SV 98 played another long ball, which Maglica, who had moved forward by then, secured. Without hesitation, he shot but didn’t pose any major problems for Karius. It was the last notable moment of the game.

Jonathan-Heimes-Platz officially opened
Around the time of the home game against Hannover 96 on Sunday (August 30th), the Jonathan Heimes Square was officially inaugurated. Florian Kohfeldt has made three changes to his starting lineup compared to the victory in Jena. Hiroki Akiyama replaces the suspended Kai Klefisch, while Nicolas Verkooijen (making his first start) and Yosuke Furukawa start in place of Carlo Sickinger and Manolo Merx.

Transfer News: Mikelbrencis strengthens SV 98
One day before their home game against Hannover 96, Darmstadt 98 have announced another new signing. William Mikelbrencis will now wear the SV 98 jersey. The 22-year-old Frenchman was under contract with Hamburger SV until June 30th.

A second-division team on the Berlin Mount Olympus: Hannover 96 achieved something unique in 1992. On May 23, the Lower Saxony club defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach in the DFB Cup final, securing another major title in the club's history 38 years after their German championship win in 1954. Hannover became the first and, to this day, only "true" second-division team to win the DFB Cup, causing one of the biggest upsets in the competition's history.
