Darmstadt started the game well, winning possession several times in the opposition’s half early on. Applying pressure, the young Lilies increasingly established themselves in Hadamar’s half and deservedly took the lead in the 20th minute through Vincent Hofer following a corner. However, Darmstadt failed to capitalise on their advantage, twice having chances to make it 2-0. Instead, Hadamar capitalised on a two-on-one opportunity, scoring from a tight angle: in first-half stoppage time, Thomas Brewer levelled for the visitors from the Limburg-Weilburg district, making it 1-1 (45+2′). The teams went into the break with the score level.
In the second half, the U21s once again dominated the game, but ultimately lacked the clinical finishing to convert their chances into goals. A direct free kick from 12 metres in stoppage time almost provided the decisive blow, but the opposing goalkeeper made the save. U21 coach Patrick Kurt reacted with a double substitution in the closing stages, bringing on Leon Keranovic and Diogo Dos Santos Pereira (84th minute), but this had no significant impact on the flow of the game. The match ended 1-1.
For Patrick Kurt, the draw was a step forward overall: „In terms of the quality of play, we showed an improvement over last week for much of the game. We played against a good opponent who, in my opinion, isn’t a typical newly promoted team. We can live with the point and know what we need to work on, and we’re now looking forward to Wednesday evening’s match in Walldorf.“

A special place of remembrance for one of Darmstadt's most well-known fans: This week, work began on the new Jonathan Heimes Square at the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor. With the redesign of the main stand's forecourt, the area in front of the stadium will be named after the fan who died of cancer around ten years ago, whose motto "You have to fight" remains inextricably linked to the Lilies. The work is expected to be completed before the home match against Hannover 96 (August 30th, 1:30pm) or Arminia Bielefeld (September 11th, 6:30pm).
