The photovoltaic system is almost as big as the pitch. The system has an output of around 1,200 kWp, making it the largest photovoltaic system in Darmstadt. Mathematically, 450 households could be supplied with green electricity every year. Compared to the German electricity mix, around 840 tons of CO2 are avoided every year.
The SV 98 can use the green electricity that the system produces directly in the stadium. According to ENTEGA’s calculations, around 46 percent of the electricity produced by the photovoltaic system can be used directly in the stadium. The remaining electricity can be used for the neighboring functional building. Electricity not used by SV 98 itself is fed into the e-netz Südhessen distribution network as green electricity via ENTEGA and thus goes to households in Darmstadt.
Dr. Marie-Luise Wolff, Chairwoman of the Board of ENTEGA, said: „The sustainable expansion of renewable energy generation plants must continue to be pushed forward quickly with major steps. Since the approval times for the construction of wind turbines are unfortunately very lengthy, greater emphasis must be placed on this in the future Photovoltaics can be used. The lilies and us have a long-standing partnership, which is now also being intensified in photovoltaics.“
„Sustainable club culture is firmly anchored in our mission statement and part of our self-image. We take this responsibility for the environment and society very seriously, so the new photovoltaic system is a clear sign of conscious action and another important component of our sustainability strategy. We are pleased, to be able to actively promote this sustainability with our partner ENTEGA and also about the fact that the largest PV system in Darmstadt can now be found on the roofs of the Merck Stadium at the Böllenfalltor,“ says Michael Weilguny, Managing Director at SV Darmstadt 98.
