„They remained stable and had the greater staying power.“

The home winning streak continues! Thanks to an improved performance after halftime, SV 98 won their first match of the new year at the Bölle stadium 2-0 (0-0). Their last defeat at the Bölle dates back to last season. What did the players and both head coaches, Miroslav Klose and Florian Kohfeldt, have to say about this Friday evening match?

Florian Kohfeldt:

„I saw a very good Nürnberg team in the first half. To be honest, I didn’t think we played that badly in the first half. Nürnberg were really good, though. Nevertheless, we pressed bravely and found the gaps. I agree with Miroslav Klose that we could definitely have been behind at halftime. The good thing is that we stayed focused and changed one or two things after halftime. We also gained more control through the set piece. After the 1-0, we had several more scoring opportunities. So, in the end, the result is fair, but Nürnberg were a really tough opponent. That’s why this win means so much to me today. We remained solid, had the stamina, and also the necessary bit of luck before the break to avoid falling behind. So, compliments to my team.“

Miroslav Klose:

„We saw a good game. In the first half, we played some really good football and had good positional play. We had a few chances. I would have liked us to take the lead then, so we could have continued to build on our positional play in the second half. Darmstadt had to play more bravely, and after the break, they were more confident. In the second half, they were purposeful, using their size and power on set pieces. That’s always difficult to defend, but we did that well for the most part. But unfortunately, you can’t defend everything. Darmstadt then added to their lead because they are very good in transition and ultimately deserved the win.“

Merveille Papela:

„We played a good game, especially towards the end. We started well, then the game was evenly matched, and Nürnberg applied some pressure before halftime. The team’s mentality shone through in the second half. We deserved to win, and I’m very happy with the team. Home is a magical place for us; our home run is fantastic. Keeping a clean sheet is especially important for every player. It was my first game as a left-back, and Nürnberg has a lot of good one-on-one players. It’s not easy, but I think I did well. I’m happy for Luca; that was a really nice goal. It was about time for him (laughs). He already said in the locker room that he was about to break through.“

Luca Marseiler

„The game unfolded similarly to the first leg. Nürnberg is a strong team. We wanted to bring energy to the pitch from the start, and I think we did that. Nürnberg builds up play with a lot of men, and they did that well too. We were chasing the game a bit, but we weren’t really in any danger. Despite the one or two shots we had, I can’t recall a single clear-cut chance. In the second half, we opened the floodgates with the corner, and that did us good. We had more possession then, but that’s to be expected, because we’re a strong team.“
