U21 defeated in Stadtallendorf

An intense match unfolded right from the start, with the Darmstadt side displaying great concentration, particularly in their defensive work. Coach Patrick Kurt’s team gave the second-placed side little space and defended attentively for long stretches.

While the Lilies put in a solid defensive performance, they often lacked the necessary ruthlessness in their attacking play. Promising situations were not capitalised on effectively enough, meaning clear-cut chances remained scarce on both sides in the early stages.

To make matters worse, the team suffered another personnel setback shortly before the break: Japhet Volkmann—Darmstadt’s last remaining recognised striker—had to be substituted due to injury. Consequently, the teams headed into the dressing rooms with the score still goalless.

After the break, the Lilies initially made the better start. In the 50th minute, Diogo Dos Santos Pereira had a golden opportunity to put SV 98 in front. However, the opening goal came at the other end shortly afterwards. After Darmstadt lost possession in midfield, Stadtallendorf launched a quick counter-attack; Loris Weiss capitalised on the situation in the 56th minute to make it 1–0 for Eintracht.

The Lilies were undeterred and stayed in the game. In the 71st minute, Tom Steineck had a chance to equalise but also failed to find the back of the net. As the match wore on, the visitors had to take more risks and loosen their defensive shape. Stadtallendorf ultimately exploited the resulting space: Jacob Pistor scored to make it 2–0 in the 80th minute, effectively sealing the win.

Patrick Kurt: „Even though we know we were up against a strong opponent, the defeat is frustrating because we could have achieved more. It was great to be able to give two more U19 players their senior-level debuts. That is the path the club has committed to, and we are continuing to follow it consistently.“

The Lilies currently sit in ninth place with 15 points. On Saturday (September 26, 3pm), FC Bayern Alzenau will visit Darmstadt. The visitors have picked up nine points from their last ten matches.
