A goal-scoring spectacle, including an emotional finale. That's exactly what the approximately 1,000 spectators who watched the match between SV Hummetroth and the U21 team of SV Darmstadt 98 in the LOTTO Hessenliga on Wednesday evening (August 20th) were treated to. After a tumultuous period of emotions, the two teams ultimately played out a 3-3 draw.
The Young Lilies suffered their first setback in the 6th minute when Hummetroth took an early lead. But the response wasn’t long in coming: Darmstadt 98 responded with a powerful attack and created numerous opportunities. Their efforts were rewarded in the 26th minute – Kian Rebner scored a magnificent equaliser after a long ball from Markus Ballmert, making it 1-1. The game went into halftime with the score tied.
After the restart, the U21s initially struggled to find their footing. Nevertheless, they managed to turn the game around and take the lead: Smail Kadrijaj finished off an attack to put the Lilies 2-1 ahead (58th minute). But Hummetroth responded just ten minutes later, equalising the score at 2-2.
Just as everything pointed to a draw, a crazy period of stoppage time began: Max Pfister gave Darmstadt the lead with a deflected shot in the 94th minute. The winning goal? No, because Hummetroth immediately capitalised on a corner and levelled again in the 95th minute – 3-3, the final score.
With the point, the Junglilien remain in seventh place in the Hessenliga after the fourth matchday with seven points from four games. The Lilies‘ next game awaits on Saturday (August 23rd, 2pm), when they travel to 11th-placed FC Gießen.
Of course, taking the lead in the 94th minute and then conceding another goal doesn't feel good. Nevertheless, it has to be said that we played against a strong and previously unbeaten opponent. Therefore, this away draw should be considered a point for us.

The Bundesliga finalised the match schedules for matchdays three through six on Wednesday (July 15th): Darmstadt's home game against Hannover 96 on matchday three will take place on Sunday. This will be followed by their away game against 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Saturday at 1pm. The home game against Arminia Bielefeld on Friday evening and the away game in Wolfsburg, also on Friday evening, have also been confirmed.
