After six consecutive unbeaten matches, SV Darmstadt 98's U21 team suffered a 3-1 defeat at home against KSV Baunatal last Saturday (September 27th). While the young Darmstadt players played with pace and determination, KSV relied on routine and experience—and ultimately prevailed.
A mixed start to the first half from the Lilies‘ perspective. KSV Baunatal took a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute with an own goal. After the early setback, Darmstadt took more control – and succeeded. Milan Herbst equalised in the 20th minute. The 98ers had good moves, but the young U21 team couldn’t maintain the pressure in the final third. The visitors, in contrast, attempted to assert themselves with long balls and routine set pieces. But the Lilies initially defended these possessions confidently. Thus, after an intense and evenly matched first half, the score was 1-1 at halftime.
At the beginning of the second half, SVD suffered another setback: Imad Jaadar received a second yellow card after 62 minutes, meaning the South Hesse side had to play with a man down. This gave Baunatal a better start to the game. Due to KSV’s numerical advantage, Darmstadt conceded two goals within three minutes (67th, 70th). The Blue-Whites tried to stabilise their position, but Baunatal’s experience made things difficult for the South Hesse side. Ultimately, the SV Darmstadt 98 U21 team suffered a 3-1 defeat after six consecutive unbeaten matches.
