No points for the Junglilien. SV Darmstadt 98's U21 team lost 2-1 to VfB 1905 Marburg last Saturday (October 4th). The Darmstadt team faced a seasoned opponent in the LOTTO Hessenliga, which, despite the defeat, provided them with valuable experience.
On deep grass, the match in Marburg developed into an intense, combative match from the outset. Despite difficult conditions, the young Lilies took the game well against an experienced men’s team and delivered a committed performance, especially in the first half. After an even start, the 98ers managed to take the lead shortly before halftime through Mika Schlosser (42′). They went into the break with this advantage – a score that also reflected a strong first half for Darmstadt.
After the break, the hosts noticeably increased the pressure. The Blue-Whites, on the other hand, found it increasingly difficult to fight as consistently in the duels as before the break – and ultimately conceded two goals in the 57th and 82nd minutes. Despite great effort, they were unable to equalise the deficit. The final result was an annoying but instructive 1-2 defeat. The Young Lilies‘ coach, Daniel Petrowsky, emphasised to sv98.de: „The game was a valuable experience, especially for our young team – especially with regard to tackling and cleverness in crucial situations.“
The defeat in Marburg leaves SV Darmstadt 98’s U21 team in fifth place in the table with 20 points. After their second consecutive defeat, the Lilies now need to shake things off, analyse the game, and then do better next Saturday (October 11th) in their home game against Hünfelder SV! "Our trend is clearly upward," said a delighted U21 coach Sebastian Schmitt.
The successful collaboration between the Hessian Disabled and Rehabilitation Sports Association (HBRS) and SV Darmstadt 98 will continue long-term: Both partners have extended their existing agreement to promote inclusive sports indefinitely. This sends a clear signal for the sustainable development of inclusion and disability sports in Hesse.
A bitter end in Karlsruhe: After 90 entertaining minutes in which both teams sought salvation in attack, Darmstadt suffered a narrow defeat. The final score was 2-1 after a late goal from the home side, following Isac Lidberg's earlier equaliser. After the match, the players were particularly frustrated with the missed opportunities in the first half.
The away form continues to be poor: SV 98 suffered a 2-1 (0-0) defeat against Karlsruher SC. Lidberg scored the equaliser for the team from southern Hesse in the 70th minute.
Darmstadt 98 visit Karlsruher SC on matchday 32 (May 3rd, 1:30 PM). Florian Kohfeldt has made five changes to his starting lineup. Killian Corredor replaces the injured Fraser Hornby, Aleksandar Vukotic comes in for the suspended Patric Pfeiffer, and Fabian Holland starts in place of Matej Maglica, who is sidelined with an ankle injury.
