U21: Unfortunate 2-2 draw despite strong performance

The U21 team of SV Darmstadt 98 had to settle for a 2-2 draw against SC 1890 Hanau on Saturday (30th August) after a strong first half. A particularly bitter result: the equaliser came in the 94th minute following a set piece.

The SV 98 team started the match strongly and clearly dominated the first half. After the break, coach Daniel Petrowsky’s team created several chances. Thanks to a great individual effort from Luis Klappich (56′), the young Lilies scored a deserved 1-0. Darmstadt continued to play strongly after that and maintained control of the game, making it difficult for Hanau to gain a foothold. After a corner, the Lilies were able to extend their lead to 2-0 through Luigi Mignano (68′). With plenty of possession and powerful attacking play, the team even created chances for a third goal, which unfortunately did not come.

Blow to the neck in injury time

Everything pointed to a home victory – until an unfortunate own goal by Mika Schlosser (73′) following a corner brought the opposition back into the game. This goal gave Hanau a boost, and they pulled themselves together and played with more courage. Despite continued effort and numerous opportunities, the SV Darmstadt 98 U21 team was unable to extend their lead. And so it happened as it had to: In the fourth minute of stoppage time, the South Hesse team had to swallow the bitter equaliser after a set piece.

With the draw, the Junglilien are now in 5th place in the LOTTO Hessenliga table. The U21s are aiming to score three points again next week and keep up with the top ranks: The Junglilien will then travel to SC Waldgirmes on Wednesday (September 10th, 7pm).

We have to learn from the second half, especially. In a game like this, we simply have to seal the deal and not let it swell again.

Daniel Petrowsky, head coach of the U21 team, told sv98.de

Line Up: Schönig – Kunstmann, Pfister (Schnerring, 77′), Karakaya, Arnold , Ballmert, Jaadar, Klappich, Rebner (Görtler, 77′), Mignano (Schlosser, 69′), Kadrijaj
