‚We’ll take that point with us‘

Florian Kohfeldt:

„After the first half, it’s a point gained for us in a very difficult away game. Given how the match unfolded, I’ll take the point. Congratulations to Braunschweig on an expectedly good performance. They made life very difficult for us. Overall, I can’t fault my team too much. We were in control for almost 90 minutes. In the first half, however, we didn’t execute the simple things well. We need to defend the goals we conceded differently. Before that, though, we need to score one or two goals ourselves. At halftime, we refocused on what makes us strong. We’ve had a difficult week overall, dealing with a wave of illness and only being able to train with eleven players on Wednesday. Yesterday, we decided that Isac wouldn’t be available. Fraser then fell ill overnight. Despite that, we had the spirit to come back here. That’s why I’m proud of the team.“

Heiner Backhaus:

„When you’re leading 2-0, it initially feels like we’ve dropped two points. But Darmstadt had 61 percent possession and also a higher xGoals value. I didn’t see a 2-0 performance from us in the first half. The halftime lead was rather fortunate. The two goals we conceded after the break are frustrating. Their two most efficient players were missing today. They coped with that and came back from 2-0 down with such spirit. I can only congratulate Flo on that. Today we showed that if we perform like this together with our fans here in our stadium, we can compete with an opponent like Darmstadt. Overall, I can live with the 2-2 draw. Every point for us is invaluable.“

Marcel Schuhen:

„We’ll take the point. Maybe a point like this could prove important. We came back from 2-0 down, which I thought was outstanding. And that against a team that’s extremely strong and consistent at home. Braunschweig needed points, you could feel it. And then things got heated. With the running track around it, this place is a cauldron of an atmosphere. We played a decent game – except for defending set pieces, that wasn’t good. We’ve defended long throw-ins very well all season, but that wasn’t the case today. Of course, we would have liked to have taken the lead in the first half with the chances we created. We were very dangerous offensively today, even without Fraser and Isac. The lads who took up their positions did a great job.“

Matej Maglica:

„I think we played a very good away game overall. We knew it wouldn’t be easy to play here in Braunschweig. Against them, it comes down to a lot of tackles and one-on-one duels. We handled that well as a team. We can’t be so sloppy with throw-ins in the first half. Nevertheless, I’m generally satisfied, and we know we were the better team today. If we hadn’t conceded those two goals in the first half, we would have won a game like this. So, heads up and on we go.“

… about his brace:

„I’m very happy that I’ve been able to score a total of three goals against Braunschweig this season. I’m grateful for every minute I play. And grateful for every goal I can score.“

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.

Left hook, 'One hundred and eightyyyyyyy', and hand over the baton. Doesn't sound like football – and that's true. KSC is often associated with professional football, but with the sheer number of titles the club has won, it's worth looking beyond the pitch. Titles from Baden-Württemberg to Rome.
