„We’ll take the point, even though we would have liked to win.“

It was the expectedly tricky away game: Against a passionate home side who demanded everything from Darmstadt, SV 98 took a point on matchday 26. After the break, Fabian Nürnberger was particularly in the spotlight, first scoring an own goal and then the equaliser. Read about his own experience of the evening and how the other key players assessed the 1-1 draw in the post-match interviews.

Florian Kohfeldt:

„Congratulations to 1. FC Magdeburg for a very good performance. I have to say clearly that we lacked the final coordination to disrupt Magdeburg’s possession game. In the first 60 minutes, FCM was clearly the better team. They deservedly took the lead, even if the goal was unusual. Nevertheless, Magdeburg could have been 1-0 up in the first half as well. I have great respect for my team for not losing their heads after going 1-0 down – despite all the setbacks we’ve had this week. The lads showed a certain stability on the pitch. It was important that we played the last half hour the way we did. Therefore, we’ll take the point. Looking at the 90 minutes as a whole, it’s a somewhat fortunate point against a very strong Magdeburg team that showed no signs of uncertainty. You have to put on a top-class away performance here to win. We didn’t do that.“

Petrik Sander:

„Thanks, Flo. It’s really tough for me today. Because we lost 1-1. I don’t even know if we could have played better, with more passion and intensity. That’s how we want to play. We were completely dominant in the first half; we should have been 2-0 up. Darmstadt’s goal simply shows their quality. Even with few chances, they’re brutally efficient. It hurts me to only draw 1-1 in this game.“

Fabian Holland:

„We are aware that Magdeburg is strong at home and had a few chances to win the game today. Therefore, we’ll take the point, even though we would have liked to win. We didn’t manage to find the spaces after winning the ball as effectively as we had planned. We wanted to be more clinical with the ball, so overall it was a difficult away game.“

Fabian Nürnberger:

„My own goal was very bitter. I was a bit lucky with my goal, but that’s part of the game. We had a few counter-attacking opportunities in the second half, but given Magdeburg’s performance today, we can definitely live with the point. Of course, we would have liked to get three points away from home again, but Magdeburg played a superb first half, especially before the break. Overall, though, we didn’t do too badly defensively.“
