5-0! U21 wins its second game of the season

Second win in two matches. SV Darmstadt 98's U21 team secured a decisive and dominant 5-0 home victory against CSC 03 Kassel in the LOTTO Hessenliga last Saturday (August 9th). After two matches, the young Lilies now have six points and a goal difference of 7-0.

„We were warned before the game,“ said Daniel Petrowsky, coach of the SV Darmstadt 98 U21 team, about their opponents. CSC 03 Kassel started the new season as a newly promoted team from the Hessenliga, but kept their team together and fielded an experienced squad, including one player who had previously played in the Regionalliga. „So we knew we would have to invest just as much as we did the week before in Friedberg,“ said the U21 coach, whose team won their opening match away at Türk Gücü Friedberg 2-0.

Handball penalty brings the lead

The Junglilien started the match with focus. They dominated the game with plenty of possession. Kassel, on the other hand, defended compactly in their own half and kept the centre tightly closed. SV 98’s U21 team therefore had to remain patient and find the few gaps in the visitors‘ defense. Although Darmstadt created promising opportunities, they failed to capitalise. It took a handball penalty, converted by Smail Kadrijaj in the 36th minute, to give Petrowsky’s team the halftime lead.

U21 insists on a quick decision

The second half followed quickly. Immediately after the restart, the Young Lilies capitalised on two chances to extend their lead to 3-0 within four minutes. First, Kadrijaj scored again (46th minute), then Othmane El Idrissi got on the scoresheet (49th minute). From then on, Kassel were increasingly opened up. The visitors attempted to attack much higher up the pitch, which gave the U21s more space, which they exploited with tremendous efficiency. Milan Herbst sealed the victory after 55 minutes, before Mika Schlosser sealed the game in the first minute of stoppage time.

The SV Darmstadt 98 U21 team has thus made a confident start to the new Hessenliga season. With six points and an impeccable goal difference of 7-0, the Young Lilies approach their upcoming matches with confidence. The next test is already waiting for you next weekend on Saturday (16.08/2pm): In front of a home crowd, the U21 team will host the Rot-Weiß Walldorf team.

The start with our new team, featuring many new players, has been successful. The fact that we've started the season with two wins is good for the confidence we'll need in the coming weeks against tough opponents.

Daniel Petrowsky, head coach of the U21 team, told sv98.de

Line-Up: Börner – Kunstmann, Ballmert, Karakaya, Alagi – Klappich (Buchberger, 86′), Jaadar – Herbst (Steineck, 69′), Rebner (Schnerring, 69′), El Idrissi (Schlosser, 62′), Kadrijaj (Mignano, 62′).

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.

A bitter end in Karlsruhe: After 90 entertaining minutes in which both teams sought salvation in attack, Darmstadt suffered a narrow defeat. The final score was 2-1 after a late goal from the home side, following Isac Lidberg's earlier equaliser. After the match, the players were particularly frustrated with the missed opportunities in the first half.

Left hook, 'One hundred and eightyyyyyyy', and hand over the baton. Doesn't sound like football – and that's true. KSC is often associated with professional football, but with the sheer number of titles the club has won, it's worth looking beyond the pitch. Titles from Baden-Württemberg to Rome.
