“An incredibly great evening of football”

What a game. What a cup thriller in the Rudolf Harbig Stadium. The Lilies won at Dynamo Dresden after a dramatic 120 minutes and had a happier ending, but overall they deservedly made it to the round of 16. After the game ended, the protagonists tried to make sense of the nerve-wracking encounter.

Florian Kohfeldt:

„Even if the vast majority of people here in the stadium don’t go home happy today, it was an incredibly great evening of football. A cup fight like you want it to be. But the first half wasn’t as fast-paced as it became afterwards. Dynamo had two half chances, but we had a great chance through Fraser, who hit the crossbar. After the break we got better and made it 1-0. After that we can prevent this fast-paced evening and must have four 100% chances Afterwards we had to take our hats off to them. I think it wasn’t completely undeserved that we left the pitch as winners. But I want to focus on the fact that it was from the 46th minute onwards, it was an incredibly good game for both teams – including Dynamo.“

Thomas Stamm:

“Congratulations to Darmstadt on moving into the next round. Everyone who was here today felt for over 120 minutes that we left everything on the pitch and absolutely wanted to move on to the next round. We played with a lot of energy and passion.” In a balanced first half, we had a phase in which we had to bite. We lacked compactness at the back in extra time. But we no longer had the access that we needed.

Marcel Schuhen:

„As a viewer in front of the television, I would have been very happy to watch this game. As a player on the pitch, there were of course one or two situations that you would have wished were a little different. In particular, after the 1-0 lead, we would have liked to close the game earlier. But that’s how the cup is. That’s how the cup is in Dresden. Nevertheless, it was really good how we continued to play after the 2-2 draw and then didn’t really allow much in extra time. Cup games are always something special and when a game like that ends up being positive for us, then you’re obviously very happy in this competition. And we’ve made it through.

Andreas Müller:

“It’s an amazing feeling. Because surviving in this cauldron is not that easy. We are very happy that we made it to the next round. Two traditional teams had a great evening in the DFB Cup today. In football, what counts in the end is that you have one more goal than your opponent. So of course we are just happy. This victory gives us further stability. If you look at our last games, you can clearly see a positive trend. Now let’s make sure we come down and regenerate as quickly as possible. On Saturday we will tackle the next task straight away.”
