„We knew that we had a difficult away game ahead of us. The opponent had already collected 13 points and had always shown themselves confident in the previous games,“ explained head coach Daniel Petrowsky with a view to the duel against the fourth-place team in the Hessenliga. But the Junglilien faced this challenge resolutely: from the start, the Darmstadt team played in a disciplined manner and repeatedly created good chances to score. After 35 minutes, Fabio Torsiello gave the Darmstadt U21s a 1-0 lead after he was able to beat his opponents after a long ball and cleverly lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper.
„At halftime we prepared ourselves for the opponent to put more pressure on us. But we scored the second goal straight after the break,“ said Petrowsky, delighted about the 2-0 at the psychologically important point right after the restart – captain Markus Ballmert scored on 46 minutes. As the second half of the game progressed, the U21s continued to defend with concentration, giving the opponent few chances and creating their own opportunities. Henry Held, who had just been substituted after 62 minutes, crowned his team’s performance in the 64th minute with his goal to make the final score 3-0.
“A deserved victory, a strong performance,” said a satisfied U21 head coach. Petrowksy continued: “You can see that the boys are getting more used to the league from game to game. They become more confident and develop further.”
