+++ "I feel very comfortable in the city" +++

Bartosz Bialek has started his time with the Lilies with great joy and confidence. „The first few weeks have been very good for me here in Darmstadt. I think the quality of the team is great, and the players are top-notch. I also feel very comfortable in the city – I’ve even found an apartment. So everything’s going perfectly so far,“ the 23-year-old explained in a media briefing on Wednesday (August 27th). The attacker also feels physically ready: „I’m healthy, I can train and play – that’s the most important thing. When I’m healthy, I can help the team because I know I have a lot of footballing ability.“

For me, the coach was the deciding factor, as was the country here.

Bartosz Bialek on the reasons for his move to SV 98

+++ "We have a lot of quality in the team" +++

His development continues to progress, which Bartosz Bialek attributes primarily to the club’s clear approach: „The team was already a bit further along when I arrived because they were able to participate in the preseason. But the club has a clear plan for me, which helps enormously. I love football and will do everything I can to get me playing.“ The decisive factor for his move was, above all, the coach’s trust: „For me, the coach was the deciding factor, as was the country here. I know that discipline and hard work are important – I like that. I know the coach very well and know he always has a plan. The club also has good physios, which is very important to me. That’s why I couldn’t say no to Darmstadt.“

Even though he narrowly missed scoring his first goal against Hertha BSC, his anticipation remains high: „Of course, it’s a shame my shot didn’t go in. I’m very grateful for every minute on the pitch. I hope a shot like that goes in next time.“ Bialek isn’t surprised by the Lilies‘ successful start: „We have a lot of quality in the team and get along well. The competition is also very fierce among us strikers – and that’s exactly what’s important in football.“

+++ First defeat of the season for U19 +++

After four competitive matches without defeat at the start of the season, the SV Darmstadt 98 U19s suffered their first defeat in the DFB-Nachwuchsliga (German Youth League). On Sunday (August 24), the young Lilies lost 5-2 away to Karlsruher SC. The match started promisingly: Bittroff gave SVD the lead in the 6th minute. But the hosts responded promptly, turning the game around within two minutes with goals in the 17th and 19th minutes. The team went into halftime with a 2-1 lead for Karlsruher SC.

After the restart, a penalty (54th minute) and another goal in the 60th minute made things clear early on. Although the Lilies managed to make it 4-2 through Smailji in the 76th minute, Karlsruhe made it 5-2 just five minutes later. For the Lilies, the defeat initially means no change in the standings: The U19s remain in second place in their DFB Youth League group. After a challenging start, the U19s now have a chance to regroup. Their next match in the DFB Youth League is not until Sunday (September 14th, 11:00am) at home against SV Sandhausen. However, they can’t do without football entirely: On Friday (September 5th, 5:00pm), the SVD will play a friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt’s U19s.

Anyone who still can’t do without the young Lilies in the meantime can look forward to something: SV 98’s B-Juniors kick off their competitive season on Sunday (August 31st, 1pm) with an away game against Karlsruher SC. The South Hesse team lost their dress rehearsal 3-1 away to SC Freiburg on Saturday (August 23rd).

+++ First competitive win for the fan team +++

This is how it should continue: The SV Darmstadt 98 fan base seems to be slowly finding its feet in the new league after being promoted to the Kreisliga B (District League B). The „second second team“ secured its first win of the season at home against SKG Gräfenhausen on Saturday (August 23rd). The decisive goal for the 1-0 home victory came right at the start of the game: Timo Frohberg fired the ball into the net in the 4th minute, which also marked the only goal of the game.

Despite a second yellow card in the 58th minute, the fan base fought until the end and thus secured the victory. The victory moves the „second second team“ out of the relegation zone and into 13th place in the table, where they are level on points with four teams. The Lilies hope to carry on the momentum on Tuesday (September 2nd, 7:30pm), when they travel to table neighbours and fellow promoted team SKG Roßdorf.

+++ Memorial visit to the former concentration camp in Osthofen +++

As a socially responsible sports club, SV Darmstadt 98 is committed to fostering historical awareness and creating spaces for shared exploration of the past. Therefore, the Lilies invite you to a visit to the memorial site of the former Osthofen concentration camp on Saturday (September 6th). The excursion offers an opportunity to delve deeply into the history of National Socialism and keep the memory of the victims alive.

Disappointment & pride

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.

A bitter end in Karlsruhe: After 90 entertaining minutes in which both teams sought salvation in attack, Darmstadt suffered a narrow defeat. The final score was 2-1 after a late goal from the home side, following Isac Lidberg's earlier equaliser. After the match, the players were particularly frustrated with the missed opportunities in the first half.

Left hook, 'One hundred and eightyyyyyyy', and hand over the baton. Doesn't sound like football – and that's true. KSC is often associated with professional football, but with the sheer number of titles the club has won, it's worth looking beyond the pitch. Titles from Baden-Württemberg to Rome.
