Facts & Figures: The top facts about the Düsseldorf game

Record holder Maglica. A duo that can make the difference. And are set pieces the Lilies' big chance against the in-form Fortuna? Ahead of the away game in Düsseldorf (September 21st), we've compiled the facts and figures for the match.

Record Shot

A record for Matej Maglica. The defender’s 132 km/h (82 mph) shot against Braunschweig was the highest speed recorded for a goal since the introduction of shot speed regulations. The previous record holder in the 2. Bundesliga was Philipp Sander at 131 km/h (81 mph), and in the Bundesliga it is Leroy Sane at 129 km/h (80 mph).

Strong shape curve

After two opening defeats, Fortuna Düsseldorf is back on the winning track. First, they won the DFB Cup against third-division Schweinfurt, followed by seven points from their next three league matches.

The start to the season was even better last season, when F95 topped the table with 13 points from five games. By comparison, the Lilies had only two points at the time, but now they have ten.

Dangerous duo

In addition to the current second division top scorer, Isaac Lidberg (5 goals), the Lilies also boast the league’s current top provider in Fraser Hornby (4 assists). A look at the statistics demonstrates how important the duo is for SV 98. The Swede and the Scotsman have started together in 26 matches, and Darmstadt have collected a total of 46 points in these matches, an average of 1.8 points. In the 13 games in which only one of them was in the starting lineup, the South Hesse club has collected only six points.

Since the start of last season, the pair have assisted each other on eight occasions. Lidberg is also the first Swede in the 2. Bundesliga to score five goals in the first five matchdays.

Damn long ago

The Lilies‘ last away win in Düsseldorf was a long time ago. On September 10, 1988, SV 98 beat Fortuna 2-1. Fortuna won each of the following six matches in the Rhineland before the South Hesse team managed to snatch at least a point at the start of the second half of last season (2-2).

Chance at set pieces?

Düsseldorf has already conceded five goals from set pieces. No other team in the league has conceded as many goals from set pieces. The Lilies are yet to concede a goal from a set piece and have already scored three goals from set pieces themselves.

Overall Record:
Games Wins Draws Losses Goals
Home 11 7 2 2 22:11
Away 11 6 1 4 21:11
Overall 22 13 3 6 43:22

As Florian Kohfeldt approached the team's dressing room at halftime, the Darmstadt head coach heard exactly one sentence: "It's not finished." Fraser Hornby had uttered it, setting the tone for his teammates and himself. What followed was a remarkable second half from Darmstadt 98 and a point against SV Elversberg, a point that, while likely insufficient for their promotion hopes in southern Hesse, nonetheless filled the Darmstadt fans with pride.
