End the winless streak

Greuther Fürth, like SV Darmstadt 98, has already had a coaching change. After the 4-0 derby defeat at home against 1. FC Nürnberg, Alexander Zorniger is no longer in charge. Since then, Leonhard Haas has taken over the management of the training on an interim basis – and won straight away. With a 4-3 win away to FC Schalke 04, Haas and Co. ended a five-game winless streak. From Fürth’s perspective, another series should end on Saturday: The hosts hasn’t won a home game since the first match day. From Lilien’s point of view, this can continue like this…

Dangerous away from home

… is the offensive of SV 98 under Florian Kohfeldt. In the two away games at Schalke and Karlsruhe, the Lilies scored an impressive eight goals and delivered pure spectacle. Unfortunately, the Darmstadt team also had to concede six goals. Nevertheless, the team under Kohfeldt is still unbeaten on a foreign pitch. The Lilies also achieved a spectacular 3-2 away win after extra time in the cup game during the week.

Shamrock in luck

In total, there have already been 26 meetings between SpVgg Greuther Fürth and SV Darmstadt 98 in the 2nd Bundesliga. And in the end, the cloverleafs often came out on top. The Lilies were only able to win one of the last seven games. That was in December 2020, when the Darmstadt team won 4-0 away. Fürth, however, won three of the last seven games, and three more ended in a draw.

Potential for improvement

The defensive lines of both teams have this. Although Greuther Fürth only conceded four goals on the first five matchdays, in the following five games there were 13 in total – always at least two goals conceded per game. Darmstadt’s defense seems more vulnerable, especially away from home: the Lilies never conceded more than two goals per game at the Böllenfalltor in the Merck Stadium, but always conceded at least three away from home.

Shots, Shots, Shots

Just hold on! Because when it comes to finishing, both teams are doing well. The Fürth team have already fired 150 shots on the opposing goal and are therefore in second place in this statistic behind 1. FC Köln (202). In addition, Fürth is one of the most frequent players in the second division looking to score from outside the area – 65 long-range shots have already resulted in two long-range goals. With a total of 145 shots on the opponent’s goal, SV Darmstadt 98 doesn’t have to hide: The Lilies are lurking in fifth place in the final ranking.

Suspended

Aleksandar Vukotic is missing against Greuther Fürth due to a yellow card suspension. The SV 98 central defender saw his fifth yellow card of the current second division season in the home game against SSV Ulm.

Disappointment & pride

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.
