A very special session was scheduled for the SV Darmstadt 98 professional team on Wednesday (September 2nd). They swapped their football boots for tennis rackets to participate in a joint team event on the TEC Darmstadt grounds. „We have a very good and friendly relationship with TEC and have been thinking about using the international break for a tennis event for a while. The boys are really enjoying themselves, and that’s the main focus today,“ Florian Kohfeldt emphasised in a media roundtable on the sidelines of the tennis courts.

Led by TEC players, the Lilies completed a short warm-up before working on their technique in small groups. The final part of the day was a tournament-style doubles match. „The players immediately grasped the sport: If you can play one ball sport, you can play the others,“ said a delighted Johann von Keussler, head of the TEC tennis department. The focus of this special training session was fun and communication. The team also celebrated their long-standing relationship with TEC Darmstadt. „It was a great pleasure for us to have the Lilies visit us. Many members of our club are long-time fans of SV Darmstadt 98 – just like me,“ said von Keussler in conclusion of a fantastic afternoon.

+++ Nürnberger and Boëtius in action +++

Most SVD players are embarking on a well-deserved international break. But not for Fabian Nürnberger and Jean-Paul Boëtius. Both players are representing their national teams: Nürnberger has Bulgarian roots through his mother, while „Djanga’s“ parents are from Suriname. The Lilies‘ number 15 made his Bulgaria debut against Belarus in 2024 and has earned eight caps to date. Boëtius, however, already played several times for the Netherlands as a youth player, as well as a part of the senior national team, but decided to join the Suriname national team in 2025.

As part of the World Cup qualifiers, Nürnberger will play against the current European champions Spain next Thursday (September 4th, 8:45pm), and he could likely face none other than Lamine Yamal in his position. Suriname’s match takes place the same Thursday (August 4th, 11:30pm): Boëtius and his team will face Panama at home. Nürnberger’s next match is on Sunday (07.09/3pm) in Georgia, while Boëtius’s match is on Tuesday (09.09/2.30am) in El Salvador.

The event is, of course, free of charge and exclusively for SV Darmstadt 98 members – please bring your membership card to the event (digital or analog). And be sure to register in advance for free! +++ Goal festival for the fan team +++

The SV Darmstadt 98 fans celebrated a 5-1 away win at SKG Roßdorf II on Tuesday (02.09). The Lilies took an early lead through Marius Wetter. Shortly after, Massimiliano Viola increased the lead to 2-0. Julian Schreiber made it 3-0 before the break. After the break, Nils Thierolf sealed the victory with a brace. He scored in the 49th and 60th minutes to extend the lead to 5-0. Roßdorf only managed a consolation goal in the 63rd minute. The blue and whites thus won comfortably and are now in the middle of the table with six points. The “second second team” will continue in action next Sunday (07.09) when they host TGB Darmstadt at Ostendstrasse in Pfungstadt.

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.

Left hook, 'One hundred and eightyyyyyyy', and hand over the baton. Doesn't sound like football – and that's true. KSC is often associated with professional football, but with the sheer number of titles the club has won, it's worth looking beyond the pitch. Titles from Baden-Württemberg to Rome.
