Lilies finally secure their long-awaited three points!
A crucial home win for Darmstadt! SV Darmstadt 98 defeated Arminia Bielefeld 2-1 (1-0). Lee (3') gave the home side an early lead, and after the visitors from East Westphalia equalised, Smit (86') sealed the victory with a penalty.
In their home match against Arminia Bielefeld, Darmstadt got off to a perfect start, sending the Böllenfalltor crowd into raptures after just three minutes. Noah Weißhaupt won the ball, laid it off to Ho-Jae Lee in the middle, and the striker tapped it in from close range. Three minutes later, Weißhaupt tried his luck himself, but his shot towards the far corner lacked power and posed no problem for the goalkeeper. After nine minutes, Marcel Schuhen was called into action for the first time when a Rochelt cross slipped through, but the keeper tipped the ball behind for a corner.
In the following period, the visitors enjoyed more possession, but Darmstadt were strong in the challenges and rarely allowed any real scoring opportunities. On the other hand, the home side repeatedly created promising counter-attacking opportunities.
Nine minutes before halftime, Bielefeld had their best chance, but Großer headed wide from a free-kick cross on 36 minutes. Thus, Darmstadt went into halftime with a narrow lead.
After the break, the visitors created numerous chances and narrowly missed equalising in the 55th minute when Momuluh fired a shot wide. Two minutes later, Milan Smit had a golden opportunity to make it 2-0 after a superb pass from Christopher Lannert, but he failed to convert. The next shot on goal belonged to the visitors again, and this time Wörl scored from distance to level the score with 59 minutes on the clock.
After the equaliser, Darmstadt regained their composure and created several promising attacking opportunities. In the 68th minute, Weishaupt broke through and attempted a shot towards the far corner, but his effort was saved by the goalkeeper.
Five minutes from time, Yannik Lührs headed a corner kick towards goal, but the header was blocked by Jensen’s arm, and the referee immediately awarded a penalty. Smit took the ball, sent the keeper the wrong way, and scored to put Darmstadt back in the lead. In the final minute of stoppage time, the home side had a great counter-attacking opportunity to make it 3-1, but the Bielefeld defence just managed to clear the ball. Shortly afterward, however, the final whistle blew, and Darmstadt secured their first three points of the season.

Bundesliga schedules matchdays 7 to 13
On Thursday (September 10), the Bundesliga finalised the exact scheduling for Matchdays 7 through 13. For Matchday 7, we host Energie Cottbus on a Saturday. A week later, we travel on a Sunday to face Karlsruher SC at the Wildpark, before welcoming FC St. Pauli to the Böllenfalltor for a Friday evening match under the floodlights on Matchday 9. The following two matchdays—at home against Magdeburg and away in Nürnberg—are both scheduled for Saturdays. Matchdays 12 and 13 will subsequently take place on Friday evenings.
Transfer News: Richter returns to SV 98
A familiar face is returning to SV 98: The "Lilies" have signed Marco Richter. The 28-year-old previously played for the South Hessian club on loan last season. Richter had agreed to the termination of his contract with 1. FSV Mainz 05 on September 1st, making it possible to sign the attacking midfielder even after the transfer window had closed.

September 10th marks the tenth anniversary of a very special moment in the recent history of SV Darmstadt 98. During the Hessian derby against Eintracht Frankfurt on that day in 2016, Sandro Sirigu scored the decisive goal—and secured an unforgettable 1–0 home victory for the Lilien—shortly before the final whistle with a delivery that was actually intended as a cross.
