Lilies win clearly against Schweinfurt

The Lilies won their friendly against 1. FC Schweinfurt in Frammersbach 6-1 (1-0). Matthias Bader made his first appearance after nearly a year out injured, and Jean-Paul Boëtius also played his first game since recovering from a muscle injury. Bartosz Bialek also celebrated his debut with the Lily on his chest.

Florian Kohfeldt: „All the players who were due to play got it. Djanga, Matze Bader, and Bartosz all got minutes. I was pleased that Bartosz was able to score his first goal, and it’s nice to see Matze back on the pitch after such a long absence. We controlled and dominated the game for 90 minutes, which I really liked. A big thank you to the hosts.“

Bialek with his First Goal

The Lilies established control of the game from the start, with Schweinfurt defending deep and ceding large swathes of the pitch to Darmstadt. From this deep block, the third-division side had their first dangerous opportunity on the counterattack, but Alexander Brunst prevented a goal with a strong reaction in the 5th minute.

For SV 98, Boëtius sniffed the lead in the 10th minute, but his free kick was saved by Emil Zorn. A good five minutes later, Zorn was again on hand to deny Yosuke Furukawa’s long-range shot. The South Hesse side continued to dominate the game, but Fynn Lakenmacher, Semih Güler and Bartosz Bialek missed further opportunities.

Lakenmacher had the best chance of the first half after 35 minutes, but the attacker hit the post.

In the 43rd minute, Schweinfurt’s Uche Obiogumu hit the woodwork, but Alexander Brunst deflected the effort onto the post. Almost immediately, the Lilies took the lead: Bialek fired into the near corner from 17 meters. The Lilien led at the break.

Goal rush after the break

After the break, the Lilies became significantly more effective in exploiting their chances. Fabian Holland slotted home a direct shot to make it 2-0, 4 minutes into the half, and in the 54th minute, 17-year-old Mark Meier from the U19s pounced on a cross from Leon Klassen to make it 3-0.

A double strike from Güler and Lakenmacher in the 65th and 67th minutes further increased the lead, while Güler and Furukawa also failed to capitaliae on further opportunities.

In the 79th minute, Güler again made it 6-0. A short time later, Schweinfurt scored a consolation goal, with Nico Grimbs scoring from close range to make it 6-1 for the third-division side.

There were no further goals in the final minutes, meaning the 6-1 scoreline remained the final score.

Line-Up: Brunst – Klassen, Boëtius (Balonier/U19, 65′), Dreskovic, Lakenmacher, Güler, Bader (Meier/U19, 46′), Bialek (Arnold, 46′), Holland, Furukawa, Pfister.

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.

A bitter end in Karlsruhe: After 90 entertaining minutes in which both teams sought salvation in attack, Darmstadt suffered a narrow defeat. The final score was 2-1 after a late goal from the home side, following Isac Lidberg's earlier equaliser.
