Lilies win heat test against Aschaffenburg

SV Darmstadt 98 successfully completed their second preseason friendly. In their 4-1 victory against regional league side Viktoria Aschaffenburg, the Lilies delivered a dominant performance and created numerous chances. Fynn Lakenmacher, Fraser Hornby with a brace, and Serhat-Semih Güler scored the Lilies' four goals.

"Overall, I'm very satisfied. We maintained our pressing throughout the 90 minutes, I saw good routines, and everyone stayed healthy. However, we could have scored significantly more goals. It was also important to us that we were able to show our skills in the region once again."

Florian Kohfeldt

Lilies with dominance and joy of play

With temperatures well over 30 degrees Celsius, the Lilies took control of the game from the start and created some high-quality chances as the first half progressed.

In the 25th minute, a beautiful solo effort by Fynn Lakenmacher created their best opportunity so far. After 27 minutes, the ball found its way into the net for the first time after a great cross from Sergio Lopez and a precise header from Lakenmacher. However, the ball had crossed the touchline before the goal was allowed to go.

Killian Corredor and Yosuke Furukawa subsequently missed further opportunities, meaning the long-awaited lead didn’t arrive until the halftime whistle: Fabian Nürnberger crossed the ball into the box, and Lakenmacher won the header with his powerful body – giving SVD a 1-0 lead.

Hornby scores twice

The second half began much as the first had ended: The Lilies continued to dominate the game and put the visitors under pressure. In the 58th minute, their superiority paid off when Fraser Hornby scored the well-deserved 2-0 after fine work from new signing Leon Klassen.

But Viktoria’s response didn’t take long. Just a minute later, Roberto Desch reduced the deficit to 2-1 with a stunning long-range shot. The visitors‘ hopes of a turnaround were short-lived, however, as it was Hornby who completed his brace in the 65th minute and restored the lead.

In the 85th minute, new signing Serhat-Semih Güler got on the scoresheet after a nice combination between Luca Marseiler and Isac Lidberg – 4-1, which was also the final score.

Starting XI – First Half: Schuhen – Lopez, Maglica, Nürnberger, Lakenmacher, Papela, Holland, Corredor, Riedel, Furukawa, El Idrissi (28. Marseiler)
