Lilies win in Walldorf
SV Darmstadt 98 won their fourth pre-season friendly. The Lilies defeated regional league side FC-Astoria Walldorf 4-1 (0-0) after 120 minutes.
Florian Kohfeldt: „It was a very good test against a good regional league team. I’m generally satisfied. It would be boring if we didn’t have anything left to work on. The set pieces are already working well, the intensity is generally right. You can see how we want to play. You can see how we want to defend. That’s all fine.“
Maglica with a Double
Unlike in previous friendlies, Darmstadt expected the hosts to sit a bit deeper, allowing Astoria to initially enjoy a high percentage of possession. After around 20 minutes, Darmstadt gradually took control of the game, but clear-cut chances remained scarce for both sides until the 30th minute, marking the start of the first quarter of the scheduled 120 minutes.
Even after the brief stoppage, the game remained largely confined to midfield, with Theodoros Politakis (42nd minute) and Fynn Lakenmacher (56th minute) providing the first real opportunities. Lars Kehl had the best chance shortly after, but his shot was saved by Astoria goalkeeper Mario Schragl in the 58th minute.
After 60 minutes, Florian Kohfeldt made a total of seven substitutions, and it took only a few minutes for the newly formed Darmstadt side to find the net. Ibrahim El Kadiri set up U21 player Tom Steineck, who calmly finished from 16 metres (66th minute).
Shortly after, Manolo Merx had another chance to score, but his shot was saved by a strong reaction from Michael Witte in the hosts‘ goal.
In the 76th minute, Darmstadt doubled their lead when Matej Maglica tapped in a perfect cross from El Kadiri.
In the final quarter of the match, the hosts initially had two good shots on goal, but couldn’t trouble Alexander Brunst’s goal. After 96 minutes, El Kadiri had another opportunity to extend Darmstadt’s lead, but his shot went just wide. Maglica did better in the 104th minute, converting an indirect free kick to make it 3-0.
Almost immediately, the hosts got on the scoresheet, with Samuel Wetter pulling one back for Astoria in the 106th minute, making it 3-1. Just before the final whistle, Mika Schlosser made it 4-1, finishing off a pass from Matthias Bader.
