The Opponents View:

HSV coach Merlin Polzin at the press conference before the duel with Darmstadt 98: „The past games against Darmstadt have always been turbulent. It will be hot again on Sunday. We face an opponent who has been very stable defensively in the last few games and at the same time very dangerous to score with their physical strikers. They also have a clear tactical plan that Florian Kohfeldt has successfully rehearsed over a long period of time and that is clearly visible. We were able to observe them in Bremen and take some lessons from them tactically, so we will prepare for all the scenarios that can await us on Sunday.“

The Officials:

  • Referee: Eric Weisbach
  • Assistants: Oliver Lossius and Justin Hasmann
  • Fourth Official: Thomas Gorniak
  • VAR: Patrick Alt and Dr. Riem Hussein

The Weather:

In Hamburg, around 5 degrees Celsius with cloudy skies are expected during the game. No rain is forecast so far.

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.
