Next contract extension: Bader will stay beyond the season

Matthias Bader will continue to wear the Lily on his chest in the future: The right-back, who is currently in rehab from the cruciate ligament and medial meniscus tear he suffered in September, has extended his contract early which had been due to expire in the summer.

Paul Fernie: „We are pleased that we can continue to rely on Matze’s qualities in the future. He has proven in recent years what importance he can have for our game. At the same time, we also wanted to give Matze the opportunity to concentrate fully on his further recovery in the coming months without having to worry about his future, and then hopefully be able to start team training again at the beginning of summer preparation. We will of course continue to fully support him in this process.“

Matthias Bader: “I have been with the Lilies for over five years now and during this time I have developed a very strong bond with the club and the city. I am therefore very pleased that Darmstadt 98 and those responsible approached me with the desire to continue our collaboration, despite my serious injury. I will do everything I can to return to the pitch as soon as possible to repay the trust that has been placed in me.”

Bader moved from 1. FC Köln to the Lilies in January 2020 and quickly established himself as a regular player at SV 98. The 27-year-old has played 118 competitive games for South Hesse to date, five of which were in the current season.

Fabian Holland: Lilies era ends after the season

The end of an era. Fabian Holland's twelfth season in the Lilies' jersey will be his last with SV 98. The 35-year-old's contract, which expires at the end of the season, will not be renewed. The club informed Holland of this decision in a confidential meeting. Both club and player agree to focus entirely on achieving the best possible end to the season until the final match and that any plans for a farewell celebration will depend on how the rest of the season unfolds.

Extremely bitter. The SV Darmstadt 98 U21 team unfortunately came away empty-handed last Saturday (April 18th) visiting KSV Baunatal: The young Lilies conceded the decisive goal late in stoppage time, resulting in a 1-0 final score. Darmstadt had managed to hold their own against the fourth-placed team in the Hessenliga for almost the entire match. "A very bitter defeat after a really good performance," explained U21 coach Sebastian Schmitt to sv98.de.

Opposition Check: SpVgg Greuther Fürth

It was the sixth matchday of the 2017/18 season, a sunny Sunday in September, and the second division fixture between SpVgg Greuther Fürth and Fortuna Düsseldorf was on the schedule. With Florian Neuhaus, Friedhelm Funkel, and Serdar Dursun on or off the pitch, the duel ended 3-1 for Fürth – thanks in part to a brace from Dursun. At first glance, probably just a typical second division victory. But historically significant and unforgettable for everyone in Fürth.
